True Strength

By: American Decency Staff

When we pervert the words of liberty and justice so that segments of society may “legally” rebel against the Creator, the Giver of liberty, we curtail our liberty, deny justice to many (in truth, all), and encourage lawlessness in the land.  The United States of America was founded on moral principles; we were expected to be a moral people.

Listen to some of our founding fathers as their words come out of our past and echo off the present crumbling walls of America’s morality:

John Adams: “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”

Noah Webster:  “The Christian religion, in its purity, is the basis, or rather the source of all genuine freedom in government…and I am persuaded that no civil government of a republican form can exist and be durable in which the principles of that religion have not a controlling influence.” He also said, “The moral principles and precepts contained in the scriptures ought to form the basis of all our civil constitutions and laws. . . All the miseries and evils which men suffer from vice, crime, ambition, injustice, oppression, slavery, and war, proceed from their despising or neglecting the precepts contained in the Bible.”

James Wilson (Signer of the Constitution and an U.S. Supreme Court Justice): “Human law must rest its authority ultimately upon the authority of that law which is divine…. Far from being rivals or enemies, religion and law are twin sisters, friends, and mutual assistants.  Indeed, these two sciences run into each other.”

These are not a few select quotes; these are representative of their hearts, their lives, the speeches they made, and their expectations for the country which they founded. Morality is what gave them courage to stand against a tyrannical king; it’s what moved them to form our government as they did; and moral freedom is what emboldened them to pledge their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor.

Moral freedom is NOT the right to do whatever you want; it’s the power to do what you ought. Freedom without boundaries leads to chaos; while freedom within moral bounds leads to liberty and justice for all.  When people push for liberty and justice outside morality, lawlessness ensues and eventually everyone is at danger. This is why we must, like our founding fathers, take a stand for morality, liberty, and justice.  This naturally leads us to stand against immorality and those who would destroy our Constitutional Republic.

As we take these stands and as we set our own moral compass, we must look to God and His laws. When man makes himself the moral compass instead of God, when a nation sets its own boundaries, those boundaries continually change and even common sense will be ignored. Men want to go beyond what God has allowed but that brings danger to man.  This is seen in science and society alike.

Look around you.  Look at society and tell me if things are improving or getting worse. As the family unit has crumbled with divorce, cohabitation, selfishness, and now its redefinition, so society has come crashing down around us.  It’s not just the “marriage” issue either; you can see as we have left our Biblical moorings, as we have refused moral purity to “gain” immoral liberties, society has dismantled further and further. As we continue to “steal” liberties, justice is denied and lawlessness abounds.  Our moral compass needs to be reset!

Education has changed; the Bible is removed and theories of evolution take its place. Prayer is removed, but false religions of humanism, socialism, and Islam are moved in. The Ten Commandments are taken out, but the Koran can be memorized in our schools while Shariah law is learned and also implemented in our American courts. With all these changes come increased violence, increased teen pregnancy, and dissolution of parental rights.  Our moral compass needs to be reset!

As America has embraced psychology, throwing aside Biblical counseling, we have stopped calling sin, sin; we make allowances and excuses for our sin instead of repenting of that sin which would allow us to draw close to God. Rather than learning to know God and what He expects which would gain us the power of moral purity, we embrace our sin and attempt to make God into our own image. Modern psychology starts with the premise that man is basically good at heart.  God says that the heart of man is desperately, incurably wicked.  Our moral compass needs to be reset!

Even the church desires to keep abreast of the world and seems to care more that it be accepted by man than by God.  If the church would learn to fear God it would have no fear of man or society. We need to keep our eyes focused on God’s truth and accept it as absolute truth instead of trying to meld man’s sciences with God’s truth. Eventually science catches up God. It would seem if any institution could maintain its moral purity it would be the church.  Our moral compass needs to be reset!

The list could go on and on but it becomes apparent that as we leave God out of the equation things get worse and worse. When a people forget where they come from and the foundations which afforded them stable footings, they not only lose truth, but the freedoms those truths protected as well.

If we hope to regain our freedoms we’ll have to regain the ground we’ve apathetically surrendered. If we are to regain surrendered ground we must regain our moral bearings.  If we are going to regain our moral bearings we must reset our moral compass.  This will affect the things you do, watch, and say.  It will change your idea of entertainment and may bring you to a closer walk with God. Decide now; let God, not society, set your moral compass.
