Tongue in cheek – but not so much

Most of you reading this are familiar with Romans 1 (often quoted these days).

Substituting the truth for a lie.  It is this very substituting the TRUTH FOR A LIE that leads to godlessness and ultimately to destruction.

What we are seeing in this regard is the trampling on of rationality, logic, common sense.

Bisexuality.  Transgenderism?  Changing your sex?  

Nationally syndicated radio broadcaster, Mark Levin, commented upon this on May 15 on his nightly show.

It’s a little tongue and cheek but really – not so much. 

“… It used to be a guy walks into a ladies bathroom – that’s a pervert and they’re arrested.  Seems to me that you don’t know what sex you want to be or what your sexuality is look down at your belly button area whatever is there is the bathroom you use.  … At that point that should be the rule.  Look is there something there or something less there.  If there is something there you go to the men’s room.  If there is something less there then you go to the ladies room.  Whatever you want your genitalia to be should not be the deciding factor.  What is your genitalia?  Otherwise you should be arrested.  You shouldn’t be going into the other bathroom.  Look at what we have to discuss in this country.  It is amazing what is going on.”

We are supposed to conform to this?   Of course not.

The following develops this beautifully:

The day that Adam and Eve represented us all (to the utmost accuracy) and turned away, at the enticement of Satan, from God, they launched the entire human race into a colossal identity crisis. We have all come onto the scene of this existence separated from God because of the sin in ourselves and the sin in the world. By nature, we don’t know God relationally and because of that we don’t know ourselves.

Our good Creator designed humanity to flourish within a certain structure.  This structure is simple: we are to love God with all our hearts; we are to trust Him completely; we are to obey Him; and we are to enjoy Him forever.

But we all, just like Adam and Eve, are in violent opposition to that structure. We prefer another structure. Something like this: we love ourselves above all else; we don’t trust that our Creator is good; we disobey Him and pursue a sense of identity, purpose and pleasure outside of Him.

Thankfully, God’s response to stealing our lives from Him – yes, stealing our lives from Him — is not merely judgment and obliteration; although that will be his response for the many who don’t embrace His alternative path.

The alternative path — the path of true identity restoration — is through Jesus Christ.

Jesus, substituting Himself in our place, endured God’s wrath and hatred – yes,hatred — for our sins so that we could receive forgiveness and have the gap between us and our God closed. With all the enmity out of the way through the pardoning of our guilt, God begins to rewire believers’ hearts and minds to flow with how He designed us to flourish – by being rooted in love and worship of Him. …

I hope that in the days to come — where sexual and gender identity confusion is going to abound more and more — followers of Jesus will be just as vocal with the truth as Satan and the world are with lies. I hope we won’t begin to give up on people or on our culture. I hope we won’t begin to disbelieve in God’s transforming mercy, grace and love available in Christ. I hope we won’t believe that He’s done working in the world and that we’re just here to “wait it out” among all the evil and confusion until he comes. I hope we won’t cower down, shrivel up and shrink back. I hope we don’t get hateful and bitter. I hope we don’t start pronouncing condemnation and judgment instead of proclaiming the gospel of Jesus.
