Tackling Human Trafficking

By: American Decency Staff

There’s no denying the fact that with an increase of 400,000 plus people coming into an area there’ll be a welcome increase in profits for business. Sadly, that means an increase in various crimes too. One of those increased crimes would be human trafficking. As the depravity of man shows an increased demand, the supply of human sexual exploitation will increase as well.

If I were to make a commercial for the Super Bowl, weighing the crime of human trafficking against the increased profits, I’d follow the MasterCard format.

Average Super Bowl ticket: $3,400
Average Slave Soul (any soul): Priceless

New Jersey recognizes the coming danger, so it’s taking measures to combat the onslaught of increased human trafficking during the Super Bowl.  U.S. Rep. Chris Smith, R-N.J., who is also co-chairman of the House anti-human trafficking caucus, has been quoted by The Associated Press as saying, "New Jersey has a huge trafficking problem. One Super Bowl after another after another has shown itself to be one of the largest events in the world where the cruelty of human trafficking goes on for several weeks."

SOAP will also help facilitate the Hotline number to those both at risk and enslaved.

How else is New Jersey trying to tackle this desecration of human dignity? Local church attendees are receiving information on the warning signs to look for, in order to identify potential victims. Truckers are being trained to look for people who may be held against their will, both women and men.

A former victim of sex trafficking is helping officials prepare for the Super Bowl this year. She’s helping to train more than 3,000 law enforcement and civilian workers to help them spot people who may have been trafficked, ahead of the big game.

During the 2011 Super Bowl, Dallas police and federal authorities reportedly arrested 133 minors for prostitution. With the hundreds of thousands of visitors expected to flock to the area around East Rutherford, N.J., for the weeklong pre-bowl parties and the game, let’s pray that this bold woman’s help will “tackle” a number of “slave-block” crimes.

Yes, the Super Bowl will soon be over but the forced prostitution and forced labor will continue, but there will also be those who continue to make an effort to “tackle” human trafficking. Will you join them in their efforts? Will you stay informed and aware?
