Keep Your Eyes on the Ball

By: American Decency Staff

Though relieved that the people spoke and turned the tide against current Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada) and Obama’s minions, I am concerned about the duplicity of Republican leadership at the highest levels.

I, in short, am deeply concerned about Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky)  and Speaker of the House Rep. John Boehner (R-Ohio), the Republican National Committee, and its Chairman,  Reince Priebus.

The people spoke!   Large numbers went to the polls asking for help.  In a very real sense, they were seeking redress for failed policies that affected them advertently or inadvertently.  Here are a few:

Strike down Obamacare (McConnell said that’s what he was going to do in an ad just days before the election).  Now he and others are saying there is nothing they can do because President Obama will merely veto any legislation they bring before the President.  The U.S Constitution grants to Congress the power of the purse. That’s their major tool to hold the President accountable.  Yet, yesterday – within 24 hours of his re-election – Mitch McConell at a press conference at the University of Louisville stated:   “Let me make it clear there will be no government shutdown”.

We need to keep our eyes on the ball.  Will Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell promise one thing and then, when the attention is diverted, do what he intended to do all along – nothing?  In the real world we call that a lie.  Stay alert.

Senator Mitch McConnell has verbally declared before a watching world his intention to hand back the power of the purse to this President who has made it abundantly clear over six years that national security is not his priority.  What’s with Republican leadership?  Many of us are utterly dismayed at such out and out foolhardiness.  What is it that holds him (and John Boehner) back from doing the right thing?

If he doesn’t take the one measure available to him as Republican leader (just given a mandate to go against the tide of Obama’s agenda) to hold Obama’s feet to the fire, why would the citizenry get behind him again as this nation continues on  in its downward path  – not only morally and spiritually, but also increasingly vulnerable to enemies within and without?

“Immigration reform” is yet another MAJOR concern.  If Mitch McConnell and John Boehner thereby take away the power of the people to hold back the President from his plan to bring millions of illegal, undocumented immigrants into the United States overwhelming our system on a wide variety of fronts (medical, social, educational, electoral, judicial, security), what is our recourse?  Wait for another election when our system is even more degraded (and vulnerable to foreign invasion and corruption from within) and when the American people are disgusted with the duplicity and fecklessness of the Republican party?

Watch carefully and prayerfully in the days ahead.   Rejoice that fellow citizens finally gave evidence that they were disgusted with “hope and change” and collectively had the wherewithal to clean house.

But watch and pray and stay engaged.   Currently,  too many within the highest ranks of Republican politics (as with Democrat politicians) count on the lethargy and ignorance of the masses.

Keep in mind it took six years for “we the people” to finally wake up to the reality as to what Obama’s “hope and change” was really all about.

If “we the people” had understood the times as the Bible says, we would have had a better understanding of how to vote!

These that have been representing us (many of which were unseated) should never have been elected.   There are many yet that “we the people” need to unseat and replace with truly honorable candidates.

May God help us

As I was concluding this short treatise, I received this email from Pastor Bert Harper, Director of Marriage, Family and Pastoral Ministries at AFA.  It was written specifically to pastors, but brings spiritually clarity as I close.

This is not the time for pride and arrogance on our part, but it is the time for "bold humility." I know those two words seem to stand in contrast to one another, but the reality is that real humility comes through the willingness to look at ourselves through the truth of Scripture. Scripture tells us that there are none good; we are all in desperate need of God's grace. Will we boldly come to His throne and bow before Him, asking that our sins be forgiven, turn from our wicked ways and seek His face.  I believe that is "bold humility" and it will result in a spiritual awakening that will sweep our nation.

Join me as I begin to prepare for Thanksgiving and get our hearts and sermons ready to share with our people the opportunity God has given His church to turn to Him in repentance and faith.

May “We the people" be the ones who fulfill the promise of God, when He said "If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land."(2 Chronicles7:14)
