What should Christians do with the Super Bowl?

By: American Decency Staff

As America spirals downward spiritually and morally, one of the markers of a people – an individual – is their treasure.

For where your treasure is there is where your heart is also.
Matthew 6:21

According to Nielsen, the so-called overnight rating for the game was a 48.1, the highest ever for a Super Bowl.  The rating reflects the percentage of households watching television that tuned in to a given show. Last year's Super Bowl was previously the most-watched American television program of all time garnering 111.3 million with a lesser rating of 47.8.

What does this say about a nation – about a people?   The half-time fiasco featured Beyonce with 15 minutes of hip thrusts and sexual gyrations. Family entertainment?  The thought of families sitting together taking this in as entertainment is difficult for me to comprehend.

Did your church host a Super Bowl party?  In the name of evangelism?

You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.  One you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
I Peter 1:9-10

When Christ comes into a person's life, they become new creatures in Christ.  He convicts and  encourages to pursue holiness.

What should Christians do with the Super Bowl?

Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul. Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation.
I Peter 2:11-12.

Yet, we aren't so heavenly minded that we are no earthly good  – we are to be salt and light – expressing our concern – firmly but kindly.  Therefore,  coming up a summary of the most egregious advertisements along with contact information and a more detailed analysis of the Beyonce NFL disgrace.
