Though snow is threatening our Thursday night event with Kamal Saleem in Grand Rapids, we are still very much on for this evening.

Interest and support is high for all three scheduled events with capacity crowds in both Grand Rapids (Thursday night at 7:00 P.M. at the Crowne Plaza), and Fremont (7:00 P.M. at American Decency headquarters).   Holland plans continue as well (breakfast at 9:00 A.M. at the AlpenRose Restaurant).

What Should Christians do with the Super Bowl

Here is one writer’s comments of concern (which I support wholeheartedly).

Dear American Decency,

I could not agree more with your stance about the Super Bowl.  It is NOT a family-friendly event, although it is certainly marketed as such.  The ads are often sexually explicit, but that is the case during the entire NFL season, not just the Super Bowl.  And this year the half-time show was more than embarrassing.  What no one ever mentions is the NFL cheerleaders.  They are there week after week doing toned-down strip tease acts, and everyone acts as if this is just clean old-fashioned fun.  The cheerleaders are one of the reasons I decided not to go to NFL games any longer.  I just couldn't take it. Everyone acts as if this is normal.  I heard people behind me making sexual comments about them too.  I contacted the Jacksonville Jaguars about it, but never got a response.  I contacted NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, and again, no response.  There are not too many things left in life that are family-friendly. You can't even take your kids to the mall without seeing Victoria's Secret posters.  Sports used to be family-friendly, but sex has become intertwined with many sporting events.  I also used to love to go to Tampa Bay Ray's games, until they decided to use Hooters as a sponsor.  Some of us complained and begged the Ray's to stay family-friendly, but they continue to use Hooters as a sponsor.  Is there any place to go where we are not bombarded with sex???  Now I just read an article that more "breastaurants" are coming to Florida, great! 

But going back to the Super Bowl, I am all for challenging the ads as well as the halftime shows, but we can't forget the cheerleaders.  Google NFL cheerleaders and you will see why.  They have become a symbol of our sexually obsessed culture.  I ask that others who feel the same way I do to contact the NFL (as well as their local teams) to express their opinions about the "cheerleader." Thank you.

This should break our hearts as well – friends in Christ!  How many of us just watch and look and take it all in without any sense of outrage.

It is an evidence of a deep coarsening of America.
