Sponsors of Hannibal – One down, more to go

By: American Decency Staff

Advertisers need to hear from you!  See below for action links.

“It only takes a spark to get a fire going.”  And the action from thousands of you has fed the fire of protest against Kohl’s empowerment of NBC’s “Hannibal.”

One of those sparks came from one of our own board members, Becky, who expressed her disgust to Kohl’s regarding the company’s sponsorship of such an abhorrent show as “Hannibal.”  Her Facebook post ignited another spark from a concerned Kohl’s customer who then also contacted Kohl’s.  These two ladies, along with thousands of you, our readers, have turned up the heat on Kohl’s!

In our email alert last Monday we stated that Kohl’s seemed to be listening to all of the expressions of concern and, while there had been no official word from the Kohl’s Corporation, we were encouraged that Kohl’s had not advertised on the June 6 episode of “Hannibal.”

Now we do have an official response from Kohl’s!

The concerned Kohl’s customer referenced above received this response from Kohl’s.

Hi Bill and Becky,

Finally made contact with Chrissy Grabarz at Kohl’s.  Got verification from her that Kohl’s made a conscious decision to discontinue sponsorship of Hannibal.  I asked her, “Does that mean Kohl’s will never be on that program again?”  She said, “That’s right!”

She explained again how they buy their commercial packages long in advance and often have no way of knowing until their commercial actually shows up on a program which programs they will be on.  Therefore, she said, she could not be certain that Kohl’s would not wind up on another (vile) program in the future, but Hannibal is done!

She was very sweet, very approving and understanding of what we are doing and why.  She assured me that I was definitely not the only person they’d heard from.  I said, “So you’ve heard from quite a few people on this subject?”  She said “Oh yes!”  I said, “So Kohl’s really does care what your customers think?”  She replied, “Oh my goodness, yes!  Your voice message reached the company president!”  That made me smile because it was something he needed to hear:   that “each of us is responsible in our own realm of influence for good or bad – whether we tear down society or build it up.  Kohl’s has so much influence that they are doubly responsible before God.”

I thanked Chrissy and told her I was going to remain a loyal Kohl’s customer!

I’m just so happy to know that, yes, we really can influence big companies who are going the wrong way if we just take a strong persistent stand for righteousness.

Thank you for all you do.  Keep doing it!!

God bless you.

Notice that Kohl’s acknowledged that they have received many expressions of concern and that those comments did make a difference!  As we’ve stated before, corporations rarely let us know that we are having an impact, but this response from Kohl’s confirms that every time you click on our “take action” link or contact a company personally, you can make a positive impact!

Our monitoring results from the June 13 episode of “Hannibal” showed that Kohl’s has kept their word and did not sponsor this show.  However, while we’re greatly encouraged to have this response from Kohl’s, there are other advertisers who still need to hear from you!

Take Action!  Click here to express your concern to all of the sponsors of the June 13 episode of “Hannibal.”

Also, as we did with Kohl’s, we’d like to single out a couple of corporations for you to specifically target.

Chevrolet has advertised on every episode of “Hannibal” except one and Yoplait yogurt, a General Mills product, is becoming a regular advertiser as well, having sponsored each of the last three episodes.

In addition to clicking on our take action link above, please take a moment to personally contact Chevrolet and General Mills/Yoplait, urging them to discontinue their sponsorship of the disturbing violence of “Hannibal.”  Below you will find these companies’ customer service number, links to post a message to their Facebook page and Twitter accounts.
