It’s not too often that entertainment reviewers and television viewers agree.  It seems that the shows which critics pan are often the most popular with the masses of TV viewers, and the television shows lauded by entertainment writers as “provocative” and  “avant-garde,”  typically fall flat with viewers.

Not so with ABC’s “Mistresses.”   This show is an equal-opportunity offender and has garnered distain from both critics and viewers alike.

Ratings have been poor – with the latest episode drawing the lowest ratings yet since the show premiered four weeks ago – down 8 percent from last week.  And critics have described the show as “trashy” and borderline soft-porn.”

This is how one reviewer describes ABC’s “Mistresses.”

“As soon as I hit ‘play,’ bodies started writhing … all over the screen. I scrolled down carefully to determine whether I’d accidentally loaded soft porn, but I hadn’t, and thus I stared at the screen in mounting amazement. …

“I’d entered the first few minutes of ABC’s Mistresses, which I wanted desperately to like … .  I hadn’t realised that the show planned to take its mission quite so seriously right out of the gate; this is a show about adultery … .

“The thing is that Mistresses really only went downhill from there. In an endless parade of mostly white people in designer clothes, I rather lost track of who was who, and more to the point, I couldn’t really bring myself to care all that much. Characters sort of blurred hazily across the screen and periodically they’d drop trou to fornicate against kitchen counters or desks …”

The corporations which advertise on such salacious programming are empowering the sexual and immoral themes portrayed. And as these immoral and sexually deviant behaviors permeate the cultural waters in which we all swim, our children and families are the ones who especially pay the price.

Last week we singled out three sponsors – McDonald’s, Red Robin, and Taco Bell – urging our readers to personally contact these corporations.  We’re pleased to report that neither Red Robin nor Taco Bell advertised on this week’s episode of Mistresses!  Having previously advertised multiple times, both corporations seemed to have listened to your expressions of concern.

However, McDonald’s was back to sponsor this degrading show for the third week in a row!

Let’s keep the pressure on McDonald’s and the other sponsors of “Mistresses.”  In addition to clicking the action link below, please take a moment to personally contact McDonald’s and express your disgust with their empowerment of a show that is an assault upon marriage and family.
