Oppose the lies of “Sister Wives”

“There's blessings that monogamous women will never know.  Never.”  This is the claim of one of the “wives” on the latest episode of “Sister Wives.”

Really??  Since when is sin ever a “blessing?”  Never.

Yet each week the four “wives” and one “husband” from TLC’s reality show “Sister Wives” attempt to indoctrinate viewers with  the “blessings" and benefits of polygamy.  When we began monitoring the show we quickly saw how polygamy was positively portrayed – swaying undiscerning viewers with the sympathetic plea for acceptance from the poor, law-breaking polygamists – depicting this aberrant lifestyle as just a “normal” family.

The polygamist “wives” made comments such as:  “We know it’s illegal, but we made a conscious decision, based on our own faith and our belief systems, that this is what we wanted to do.”  One also claimed, “We believe consenting adults should be with who they want.”   The husband of this harem stated, “…it’s hard to dictate by law who you love.”

And the propaganda is working.  Polygamy is a new trend on television.  Following the trend of “Sister Wives,” others are jumping on the bandwagon, including a new series on the National Geographic channel (“Polygamy, USA”), and a movie about “young love” in a polygamist colony airing on the Lifetime channel this month.

Where will all of this the polygamy hype lead?  To predict, it might be helpful to look at where the push for the portrayal and acceptance of homosexuality on television has led.

Twelve years ago, on July 6, 2001, Hollywood Extra wrote:  “It’s the kiss that’s on everyone’s lips this week. After a season of teenage angst and longing, tonight’s season finale of “Dawson’s Creek” … features the first passionate homosexual kiss between two men to ever take place on primetime television. …

“No less than the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation has branded the smooch ‘historic’."

Twelve years ago homosexual kissing on a cable TV channel was proudly labeled “historic” by GLAAD.  Now it’s common.  That was an early stepping stone to the widespread acceptance of homosexuality on all of network television – and by many of the generation raised on television in the last twelve years.

So where will the “historic” portrayal of polygamy on “Sister Wives” lead?

After the terrible U.S. Supreme Court decision in June empowering same-sex marriage, Anita Wagner Illig, of the organization Practical Polyamory, recognized how homosexual marriage lays the groundwork for polygamy, stating:  “A favorable outcome for marriage equality is a favorable outcome for multi-partner marriage, because the opposition cannot argue lack of precedent for legalizing marriage for other forms of non-traditional relationships.”

Homosexual marriage doesn’t just change the definition of marriage – it removes the definition of marriage, rendering it meaningless.

American Family Association’s president, Tim Wildmon, warns: “Since marriage is ultimately about the optimal nurturing environment for vulnerable young children, destabilizing the institution of marriage is a terrible thing to do to America’s children.  God gave us the responsibility to protect this sacred union, and we should resist any effort to destroy it. What God has defined, man must not redefine.”

But  polygamist Anne Wilde, rejoiced, stating:  “I was very glad.”  (about the Supreme Court rulings).   “The nuclear family, with a dad and a mom and two or three kids, is not the majority anymore.  I think people are more and more understanding that as consenting adults, we should be able to raise a family however we choose.”

What a horribly sad statement of which she boasts.

Protecting the God-ordained design for marriage and family where children are nurtured by a mom and a dad – or stand by while the nuclear family is marginalized, where children are raised in whatever type of sexual groupings (otherwise known as “families”)  adults “choose” for them.

This is our choice in America.  Which type of family do you want to see for your children and grandchildren?

If you want to see true, biblical marriage for them, do all you can now to oppose any “redefinition” of God’s loving plan for marriage and the nurture of children.  One small action step is to speak out against the indoctrination of “Sister Wives” and send a message to the advertisers empowering this show.
