NBC’s “Hannibal” – demented and blasphemous

By: American Decency Staff

A warning and a review regarding NBC's new crime drama, "Hannibal," which is based on the books by Thomas Harris.  A trilogy of horror movies also based on the books is likely better known – "Silence of the Lambs," "Hannibal," and "Red Dragon." The title character of the series, as well as the subject of the movies and books, is Hannibal Lecter, a psychologist who is also a cannibalistic serial killer.

One of the central thoughts that NBC and NBC’s “Hannibal” presses upon its unsuspecting and largely undiscerning viewers is this blasphemous word – putting in God’s mouth words that are as far away from representing God’s  Word  as the east is from the west.

“Killing must feel good to God too.  He does it all the time.

And are we not created in His image.”

AND FROM THE LAST EPISODE LAST THURSDAY.

“God’s terrific.  He dropped a church roof on thirty-four of his worshippers last Wednesday night in Texas when they sang a hymn.”

When lead character Will asked“Did God feel good about that?”

Hannibal (cannibal) responded“He felt powerful.”

Killing and burying victims alive and cultivating body parts is a significant part of this show.   And eating particular body parts as delicacies – sharing the home-cooked meals with guests as they compliment the flavor.

Violence, blood and gore, depictions of gun firing with bullets penetrating the body.

Corpses laid bare in grotesque fashion with mushrooms sprouting out of them.

At one point in the story line, the detectives discuss the dangers associated with copy cat killings as people see and emulate.  NBC is culpable.  They are planting demented seeds.  Who’s to say that we won’t be reading about real-life emulators in the days ahead?

This ongoing press of demented, godless programming continues day in – day out year after year.  File complaints with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) – the watchdog of our nation’s airwaves?

Anyone who has been around awhile knows where that goes.  Nowhere.

The FCC as watchdog of our airwaves is like having a police department that is inattentive to felonious crime even when it’s at their own doorstep.

President Obama and his administration have mounted major pressure upon the National Rifle Association (NRA) and gun owners with ever increasing concerns garnered  regarding the assault upon the 2nd Amendment.

Why not Hollywood?

With President Obama’s significant ties with movie stars and Hollywood, a compassionate word of reminder to Hollywood from the President regarding the copy cat nature of media would be highly appropriate in such a time as this – or not?

Radio commentator Mark Levin – former chief of staff for former U.S. Attorney General Edwin Meese under the Reagan Administration comments:

Hollywood is untouched by all the proposals, working their way through Congress when it comes to violence.  Have you noticed that?  In other words, the Democrat constituency groups that fund the Democrat Party are immune from federal legislation.

They’re protected by the Democrats.  And this goes on and on and on.  “Oh, if it could save just one child’s life” to restrict violent movies and games.

Wouldn’t the President be for it?  Of course not.  Again I want to make clear I’m not making the connection.  I’m just saying if the Bill of Rights is up for grabs – it’s up for grabs.  And isn’t it interesting who the left protects and who the left does not protect.

They never go after their money sources.  Ever.  Ever.  And they aren’t going to.

It’s not the way they work.

Years ago those debating the concern would say “Just turn the channel.”

What a simplistic answer.  Your and my children and grandchildren have to live in such a culture where increasing levels of sex, violence, perversion, profanity are broadcast day after day after day.

Copy cat killers and copy cat psychopaths.

In 2004-2005, ABC unleashed a series called “Life as We Know It.”

One of the themes was an illicit relationship between a high school teacher and her student.  Within a few months, we began to note news items reporting an epidemic of student/teacher sexual liaisons.

So now we have cannibalism..  “Life As We Know It” was short lived.

Help us get NBC’s demented “Hannibal” off the air in quick order.

We are in deep trouble.  John Adams quote gives significant explanation why.

We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge or gallantry would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution is designed only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate for any other.

Father God:  Turn our hearts toward thee.  We need your help.

In Christ’s Name.  Amen
