Joshua, Judges, and GCB

By Bill Johnson I was reading the first four chapters in the book of Judges very recently. Joshua had concluded the remaining days of his life by reminding God’s people in Joshua 23-24 of all that God had done in leading them out of Egypt into the promised land – delivering them from enemies, pagans, sure destruction. However, we see quite early in the book of Judges at Judges 2:10 – "and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the Lord, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel." The book of Judges is a book revealing the growing wickedness and godlessness among that generation. The book concludes at chapter 21, verse 25 with these memorable words: "every man did that which was right in his own eyes." Every one did what was right in their own eyes. I couldn’t help but think of this as I watched a few moments of ABC/Disney’s latest TV program entitled "GCB". Initially they were intending to call it Good Christian B—-. This weekly show is filled with cleavage-bearing women in lingerie with a cross dangling – as they spew disgusting verbiage and innuendo coupled with using Christ’s name, mocking the Bible, the church, His Holy Name and making it appear that living a Christian life is focused on sex, shallow, stupid, hypocritical and a complete sham. This is an ABC/Disney production – The program is called GCB.  It airs of all things on Sunday nights. Everyone did what was right in their own eyes.   Israel failed as one by one the people fell to godlessness and wickedness. Everyone doing what was right in their own eyes.
