Giving SI Swimsuit as a Valentine’s gift? You’ve got to be kidding!

By: American Decency Staff

The phone rang this morning a little after 8:00 A.M.  The lady on the other end of the phone was asking if I had seen NBC’s “The Today Showâ€Â  news story this morning featuring the 19 year old on the front cover of this year’s Sports Illustrated Swimsuit. The caller expressed her heartfelt concern: (1) while she was being interviewed erotic clips were simultaneously airing. (2) she was hoping that we would make available an address where complaints could be made to NBC.  I assured her that we would make it available. See action link below: SI Swimsuit hits shelves today – on Valentine’s Day!  If this doesn’t make you sick and INDIGNANT, something is dreadfully wrong!  So one of America’s leading masturbatory tools becomes a Valentine’s gift? Would any spiritual/moral girl or woman give her boyfriend or husband Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition for a Valentine’s gift?   Sadly some have now become so morally confused that they don’t realize that men ogle these images, which often leads to greater pornography use, and use the images from this magazine to self-pleasure.  Or, perhaps have sex with their partner (either fornication, extra-marital or in marriage) and visualize the sexual image rather than their partner. If this scenario fits you, wake up.  Don’t allow this sleaze magazine to further confuse,  addict and degrade you! Then you have the “newsâ€Â team on NBC’s  – “The Today Showâ€ÂÂ  playing up to this year’s cover girl – a sexualized 19 year old who has been dumb-downed apparently by her own family as it is stated in the interview that SI Swimsuit Edition has been part of her household throughout her growing up years.   Poor seed was planted and is reaping sad results. This nineteen year old Michigan girl is sitting in an NBC studio being interviewed – scantily clad, cleavage revealing top – by NBC staff.   The Today show hosts, rather than asking questions like: (1) Many assert that SI Swimsuit doesn’t empower women, rather it demeans and exploits them – portraying them as sexual objects.  If so, don’t you think that you may be doing a disservice by allowing yourself to be flashed nearly naked across television screens as you are right now and on the front cover of a pornographic magazine? (2) Would you want your child one day to follow in your footsteps to be ogled and displayed so erotically?  Perhaps addicting hundreds of boys and young men to sexual images for perhaps years to come. Instead there questions are questions that affirm pornography and illicit sexual poses.  Here are but two example of the light-weight questions asked by the Today host – condoning SI’s objectification of women: Q:  NY Times article talks about you being a self created, internet phenomenon essentially you posted yourself dancing.  Do you see yourself paving a new road to becoming a super model? Q:  You grew up in a household that the SI would come every year, did you have one model that you wanted to pattern yourself after? Click here to express your concern to NBC regarding their disregard and tacit approval of the degradation of women and their own erotic display of images from the SI swimsuit magazine during a time when children could be watching. ========================================================== To support our efforts please click here or mail your gift to American Decency Association (ADA), PO Box 202, Fremont, MI 49412.
