Christian bigotry continues on GCB. Take action!

By: American Decency Staff

ABC/Disney aired the second episode of “GCBâ€Â – the most blatant form of Christian bigotry to come out of Hollywood on network TV.  No other faith in America would ever be targeted for such ridicule and mockery. Not one character on this show is portrayed as a sincere Christian whose life and actions have been transformed by Christ.  Rather, these “professingâ€Â Christians spout Scripture references – twisted and taken out of context – to justify their vindictive behavior. We are seeing a huge response from people fed up by this offensive portrayal of Christianity!  Add your voice to thousands of others and let corporate America know we will hold them accountable for partnering with ABC and sponsoring GCB. Take Action! Click here to send a message to the companies who empowered this derogatory portrayal of Christianity on last night’s episode. We also urge you to forward this email to your family and friends, encouraging them to stand with us.  We are getting the attention of advertisers, but we need to continue to raise the concern and add numbers to our expressions of outrage. Below are examples of why we so strongly oppose this degrading show: Last night’s episode opened with Carlene, leader of the “meanâ€Â Christian women, refusing to go to church because on the previous Sunday she was humiliated by her rival who used a time of public prayer during the worship service to expose the fact that Carlene and her husband own a Hooter’s-esque bar called “Boobylicious.â€Â As Carlene sulks, not wanting to show her face in church, her husband, dressed for worship, holds up a Bible and says:  “There is nothing in this book that says you can’t own a booby bar.â€Â Really???  Actually, I can think of dozens of Scripture verses and teachings from the Bible that indicate God would not be pleased with His children owning a so-called “booby bar.â€ÂÂ  God’s Word has a lot to say on issues that relate –including lust, adultery, sexual sin, immodesty, and being a stumbling block to another – just to name a few. In addition to this insulting mockery of Christianity and God’s Word, the show explicitly reveals more cleavage than a dozen Victoria’s Secret commercials.  Carlene defends her very revealing clothing which shows half her breasts, by stating:  “I have been saved.  I have a wonderful spiritual husband who likes ‘em where he can see ‘em.â€Â The fixation on breasts carries down to the women’s teenage daughters.  One of the moms praises the breast implants of the high school daughter of one of the women, telling the girl:  “Look at those perky new pillows!â€Â The mom replies:  “Blake (the girl’s father) and I wanted a perfect B; she wanted a D cup, so we compromised with a C. When another girl complains to her mom that “all the foxes have star boobsâ€Â her mom replies, “Well, Christmas is coming, honey!â€Â Another woman squeezes the teen’s breasts, saying:  “Dr. Smithburn’s work, right?â€Â And as she feels her own, states:  “Yep, I’d know his work anywhere.â€Â The girl with the breast implants is dressed in a very skimpy halter top – part of her school cheerleading outfit.  Her mother complains, “I keep telling her you can’t wear last year’s uniform with this year’s breasts. It’s too tight.â€Â Another mom replies, “Relax, cleavage helps your cross hang straight!â€Â Later at a school pep rally while performing a cheerleading routine in front of parents and students, the girl’s top rips open revealing her breasts (the camera blurs out the explicit image).  Two fathers of other students, leer at the young high school girl, ‘admiring’ what they recognize as “Dr. Smithburn’s work.â€ÂÂ  Middle age men lusting over a young teenage girl! Not only does this show smear Christianity, think of the warped, destructive message being given to young girls already insecure about body image.  Telling them they have to have plastic surgery to create the “perfectâ€Â body while moms praise their daughters for revealing cleavage and dressing provocatively. Just another reason why this show needs to be opposed – from maligning Christianity and biblical truth and teaching, to explicit sexual imagery and themes, to the damaging messages sent to young viewers.
