After much deliberation, I have decided to vote for Mitt Romney. My reasoning is based upon both economics and moral principles. I am thankful for the ground-breaking achievement our nation experienced by electing our first black president. Collectively, we are a creating a post racial America. If we are serious about delivering our nation from her original sin of “racism,” we will have to hold President Obama accountable for his abandonment of foundational moral values and his failed economic policies. We cannot accept his blame-game excuses as the reason for our increasing national woes.
If a white politician had allowed black unemployment to hang at 14 percent, compared to 8 percent unemployment overall; we would not accept such a poor performance. Even educated blacks with bachelor’s degrees and above are unemployed at 50 percent higher rates than their mainstream counterparts.
Congressman Alan West makes a persuasive case for blacks to reject the economic policies of the president. He states: “Since 2007, black median household income has declined by 11 percent — the largest decline of all major racial and ethnic groups…In 2011, the poverty rate among black Americans was 27.5 percent. The poverty rate among blacks living in families headed by women is 41 percent.”
West’s figures are disheartening, but President Obama’s critics are not just black conservatives. Liberal blacks also see the president as unaccountable or unapproachable on the question of his commitment to the poor. The Poverty Tour of Cornell West and Tavis Smiley show that the president has been an “outspoken” advocate for the poor – without substance or follow through.
Bible believers understand that repeatedly through out the scriptures God’s disapproval of a nation’s spiritual condition caused Him to lift his blessings from that nation – creating economic recession and national security problems. 2 Chronicles 7:14 says clearly, “If my people called by my name will humble themselves and pray, I will hear……”
What we decide in this election will determine what kind of nation we are during the next few decades. President Obama has become a personality akin to the biblical figure “Ishmael” for the African-American community instead of the “child of promise” we had hoped for. In a nutshell, he has attempted to create a new, unbiblical standard of social justice that promotes abortion, same-sex marriage, a distrust of Israel, and a diminishing of religious liberties.
