ABC/Disney Assaults Christ and His people. Your action needed!

ABC/Disney premiered the new show “GCBâ€Â Sunday night.  With such an innocuous sounding acronym for a name, you might wonder what “GCBâ€Â is about.  Well, innocent it is not.  A year before the show even aired, while still in early production, the original title caused such an uproar from both Christian groups and women’s rights advocates, the show’s name was supposedly changed.  ABC now claims the new title “GCBâ€Â stands for “Good Christian Bellesâ€Â – instead of the original name “Good Christian B—ches.â€Â While “on paperâ€Â ABC/Disney claims to have changed the name of the show, their TV promos leading up to Sunday night’s premiere episode tells a different story.  The trailer plays off of the word “b—ches’ without actually using the word, but leaving viewers’ minds to automatically fill in the blank. In the promo a narrator states: “Welcome to Dallas, home of fancy stitches, lots of riches, and Good Christian …â€Â “What might seem vicious and nasty like witches, is just saying howdy from Good Christian …â€Â And the logo for the show depicts a close-up shot of a large cross necklace hanging in a woman’s low-cut cleavage. However, Shakespeare had it right.  “A rose by any other name…â€Â However, there is nothing sweet about “GCBâ€ÂÂ Â  and it certainly isn’t good.  What the show is “goodâ€Â at, however, is to thumb its nose at Christianity.  In fact, that seems to be the entire premise of the show – a mocking, hypocritical depiction of Christians. Continue reading: From the same producer who brought the explicit “Sex in the Cityâ€Â to television, “GCBâ€Â is plugged to be the next “Desperate Housewives.â€Â  The show centers on a group of catty, vindictive women who focus their contempt upon an old high school rival who has returned home.  ABC’s website has described the so-called “Christianâ€Â women of the show as a“twisted little social clique of affluent, sugary, God-fearing, steely women whose bark is as bad as their bite.â€Â The returning rival is the former high school “mean-girlâ€Â who has changed her ways.  While the malicious “Christianâ€Â women are steeped in ‘churchiness’ and religiosity, their returning rival – the only one portrayed kindly – has turned her back on Christianity.  It’s not hard to get the point ABC is making here. It must have been difficult to speak with his tongue firmly planted in his cheek, but one of the show’s producers, Robert Harling, has claimed regarding GCB: “Church is sacred…we will never, ever be disrespectful.â€Â And if you believe that I have a bridge for sale … The show opens with a crude scene where a woman performs a vulgar sex act on a man while he is driving, causing the car to go over a cliff.  Gossiping about the accident over the phone, one woman states: “Her head was in Bill’s lap – and she was not giving him directions. Laughingly one states: Unfortunately, she bit off more than she could chew.â€Â To which the leader of the group says:  “Ladies, it is not appropriate to speak of such things on the phone.  I’ll see you in church!â€Â The “Christianâ€Â women on “GCBâ€Â spout Bible verses right and left – taken out of context, of course – as justification for their vengeful behavior.  One of them has a vanity license plate with the boastful claim “HOLY ONEâ€Â and John 3:16 emblazoned on her car.  In fact, there are probably more scripture quotations and references to Christ on this one episode than on all other network shows combined.  It’s just that each reference is used to deride Christianity and portray those claiming to be followers of Christ as nothing more than hypocritical members of a snobbish social club.  While of course we all know there are some “tares among the wheatâ€Â within the church, according to ABC the church is filled with nothing but weeds. Carlene, the “leaderâ€Â of the “Christianâ€Â women who brags about their “righteous communityâ€Â and their “moral codeâ€Â is found out to be the owner of a Hooter’s-like club called “Booby-liciousâ€Â where Amanda, the returning rival, now works clad in the skimpiest of “clothing.â€Â Carlene also visits her husband at work and tells him about the cheating husband of a friend.  Her husband counsels her to pray for them to which she says, “I’m so blessed to have found a husband like you.  I wish all marriages could be as happy and secure and as spiritually grounded as ours.â€Â To which he replies:  “Want to do it on the desk?â€Â She takes a picture of Jesus off the desk, turning it face down, and jumps on the desk as they have sex. I could fill pages with the offensive dialogue and sexual themes from this one episode.  It is clear that to ABC/Disney the only creed they follow is the faithful, relentless attack upon the faith and values of millions.
