When Sodom and Gomorrah comes to your town

By Bill Johnson A couple of years ago I left the church where I had been a member for a number of years because I saw a denomination that was turning its back upon the Bible. When we permit the Bible to say whatever we want it to say and obey it only when it’s convenient, we open ourselves (our individual lives, families, communities, schools, nation) to sins of all kinds.  Perversions like adultery, homosexuality, same-sex marriage, child pornography, obscenity. Examples: What does the Bible say about Christians marrying unbelievers: “Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers.â€ÂÂ  II Cor. 6:14 What does the Bible say about women in ordained positions including the pastorate: “… the husband of one wife …â€Â Titus 1:6 “… the husband of one wife …â€Â I Timothy 3:2 What does the Bible say about homosexuality? “… God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done.â€Â Romans 1:28 Romans 1:18-29 Tonight I go back before the Holland City Council.  Just a few short weeks ago, to its credit, the city council voted down a homosexual rights initiative by a vote of 5-4. On July 4, the primary voice behind this initiative sought news coverage (and got it) as he stood on the steps of the Holland City Hall along with 41 backers to announce that “Pastorâ€Â Bill Freeman would be going back and “educatingâ€Â and urging the city council to reverse their vote. When an individual turns his/her back upon Truth,  you and I are foolish if we aren’t concerned, discerning, and alert to falsehood. An insider voice stated that Bill Freeman graduated from Western Theological Seminary (Holland, MI) a few short years ago and that it was stated by a professor that he was the most heretical person to ever have graduated from this once thoroughly Biblical seminary. Kurt Vonnegut I believe in God whenever I feel a loving touch, hear birds singing, smell a rose, taste chocolate, see the smile of a child.__________ In our local communities there are such individuals who, for whatever reason, have turned their back upon rational thinking and the Christian world and life view.  Such individuals have the tendency to aggressively press a godless agenda in the name of justice, tolerance, anti-bullying, etc.. Why does the Bible refer to homosexuality as an abomination?  Could it be because the Creator God knows that it is degrading, unnatural, harmful and often deadly and desecrates the image of God in His people. My best friend in college died of AIDS.  I know of others who tell of the filthiness, the perversity practiced by many homosexuals:  multiple partners, unfaithfulness, lewd acts, the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. I used to wonder how Sodom and Gomorrah became Sodom and Gomorrah.  I think we are getting a sense of how that came to be. Good people said nothing and they did nothing while those practicing perversions pressed, pushed and became increasingly emboldened in their wickedness – while city leaders, pastors, Christian men and women remained silent and did little to nothing to uphold Biblical truth.
