The President’s passion: Earth Day, Gay Pride or Easter?

For those of you who didn’t know, Earth Day was this past Friday, and President Barack Obama wants you to know that America is committed to cleaning up the environment. How do we know this? Because he made a point of issuing an Earth Day proclamation that said as much.

“Every American deserves the cleanest air, the safest water, and unpolluted land, and each person can take steps to protect those precious resources… To meet this responsibility, Federal and local programs will continue to ensure our Nation’s clean air and water laws are effective, that our communities are protected from contaminated sites and other pollution, and that our children are safe from chemicals, toxins, and other environmental threats.”

But Friday wasn’t just the day that American’s are pressured to deny themselves the comforts of the 21st century technology as an act of penance to “Mother Nature” whom we abuse so badly with our 60 watt bulbs and hot showers.

It was also the day that the majority of the country recognizes as “Good Friday,” the day our Savior was tortured to death in order to cleanse the sins of His followers. For this special occasion, the president proclaimed – absolutely nothing.

Then surely an Easter proclamation? After all, Obama has recognized all the major Muslim holidays with presidential proclamations. Unfortunately, no. The White House offered no Easter proclamation either.

Now, to be fair, the president did celebrate Easter himself with a prayer breakfast on Thursday and by attending church (the pastor of which has been known to accuse talk radio hosts and the tea party of racism) on Sunday. And, to his credit, he even drew attention to the foundational purpose of Easter at the prayer breakfast.

“And we’re reminded that in that moment, (Jesus) took on the sins of the world — past, present and future — and he extended to us that unfathomable gift of grace and salvation through his death and resurrection.”

So why is it so hard to put forward an official document that says that? In 2010, President Obama did put out an Easter proclamation, but it did not so denote those core Christian ideals, as Fox Nation explains.

In 2010, Obama was criticized for releasing an all-inclusive Easter greeting. He reached out to Jews, Muslims, Hindus, and people of no faith at all in a statement about a holiday that is uniquely Christian.

“All of us are striving to make a way in this world; to build a purposeful and fulfilling life in the fleeting time we have here,” Obama said in his 2010 “Easter” message. “A dignified life. A healthy life. A life, true to its potential. And a life that serves other.” “These are aspirations that stretch back through the ages – aspirations at the heart of Judaism, at the heart of Christianity, at the heart of all the world’s great religions,” the president added.

The president, as I noted before has issued proclamations for the major Muslim holidays such as Ramadan and Eid-ul-Adha as well as for the Jewish Passover and Hinduism’s Diwali. The president celebrated Easter himself, so clearly it wasn’t an oversight, but a conscious decision not to publicly honor Christianity’s most important holiday as he has honored every other world religion.

In closing, much could be said about his passionate and faithfulness in his proclaiming June “Gay Pride Month.”

Where does this president’s passion lie?

Read this brief excerpt from his 2010 proclamation of Gay Pride Month.

Presidential Proclamation–Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month

As Americans, it is our birthright that all people are created equal and deserve the same rights, privileges, and opportunities.  Since our earliest days of independence, our Nation has striven to fulfill that promise.  An important chapter in our great, unfinished story is the movement for fairness and equality on behalf of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community.  This month, as we recognize the immeasurable contributions of LGBT Americans, we renew our commitment to the struggle for equal rights for LGBT Americans and to ending prejudice and injustice wherever it exists.

LGBT Americans have enriched and strengthened the fabric of our national life.  From business leaders and professors to athletes and first responders, LGBT individuals have achieved success and prominence in every discipline.  They are our mothers and fathers, our sons and daughters, and our friends and neighbors.  Across my Administration, openly LGBT employees are serving at every level.  Thanks to those who came before us    the brave men and women who marched, stood up to injustice, and brought change through acts of compassion or defiance    we have made enormous progress and continue to strive for a more perfect union. …

This president refers to the immeasurable contributions of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans have made.  Excuse me?

What about the much more immeasurable contributions of Christians, such as the founders of this country? These men would have been disgusted by a president of the United States who will honor sexual sin, but ignore the death and resurrection of Christ which can cover that sin before the eyes of God.

As for these quaint little initials “LGBT,” God refers to such behaviors as abominations.

This president gives the abomination of LGBT much more attention and passionate focus and attention than the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead – Christ’s conquering death and cleansing sinners from their unrighteousness, even the unrighteousness of the dark sin of LGBT.

A word from the past

“… Here is the reason why we have a moral breakdown in every area of life. The titanic freedoms which we once enjoyed have been cut loose from their Christian restraints and are becoming a force of destruction leading to chaos. And when this happens, there really are very few alternatives. All morality becomes relative, law becomes arbitrary, and society moves toward disintegration. In personal and social life, compassion is swallowed up by self-interest. …”   Dr. Francis A. Schaeffer
