Propagation is not news. Advertisers need to be wary

By: American Decency Staff

This past week WZZM, Grand Rapids (an ABC affiliate) aired a disgusting 5 minute so-called news clip regarding two couples exchanging beds with one another every other night (which they called Polyamory: Redefining love’s boundaries). People in the Grand Rapids area and beyond don’t like this kind of reporting.  We supplied an action link for individuals far and wide to communicate their concerns. Contact WZZM https://americandecency.org/take_action_form.php?msg_id=98 To see the clip yourself: http://www.wzzm13.com/news/article/166770/14/Polyamory-Redefining-loves-boundaries Some of you don’t recall a day when local tv news reporting was about breaking actual news and not about propagandizing, proselytizing. I recall the days even when television stations like WZZM  gave time for opposing views.  They set aside one minute on air taped opportunities for opinion pieces.  I know because I did at least one of these minute on air spots. Still I would prefer the day when news was simply reported straight out from the facts as they were unfolded without the twisting and contorting and accentuating the point(s) that they want to impress upon their viewer. In regard to this 5 minute WZZM clip, I do urge you to see it for yourself and take action. http://www.wzzm13.com/news/article/166770/14/Polyamory-Redefining-loves-boundaries Contact WZZM https://americandecency.org/take_action_form.php?msg_id=98 For your information, we also wrote a letter to the advertisers that advertised during that particular news segment.  It wouldn’t be fair to try to hold them accountable as they didn’t have a clue that their ad was helping to pay for a propaganda piece promoting perversion. In our letter, we urge the various companies to let the station know that their ad was to sponsor the news not perversion.  We are hoping that at least one of those companies advertising will let WZZM know that they are not happy and that if they don’t abstain from such propagation their advertising support will be a thing of the past. Here is the content of our letter: I am writing because your advertisement ran on WZZM’s local news hour – 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 25, 2011. On that particular news hour WZZM ran a clip that featured five minutes on the topic of “marriageâ€Â – entitled, Polyamory: Redefining love’s boundaries. Polyamory is a term used for polygamy or group “marriageâ€Â. The piece began with this blatantly biased reporter’s statement: See for yourself: http://www.wzzm13.com/news/article/166770/14/Polyamory-Redefining-loves-boundaries WZZM makes a concerted effort to legitimize and affirm such perverse lifestyles as wife-swapping and group “marriageâ€Â – practices condemned not only by the Christian church and many other faith communities, but also by society. With no opposing viewpoint given to object to the ideas promoted in this piece, the WZZM reporter concludes: As marriage debates heat up, the country will have to decide if we will allow others to be free to define loves boundaries. As our families, go so goes the vitality, morality and health of our great nation. There are many attacks upon the family today.  Every now and then opportunities arise for each of us – whether as individuals or as ministries, companies or corporations to stand up for families and against attacks upon our vital institutions. In advertising during the news hour, you wouldn’t anticipate that your advertisement dollars would be helping to fund a five minute clip that is much more about propagating a perversion than about reporting a newsworthy story. Your advertisement was one of several that aired during this news segment.  It may have been coincidental that your ad was broadcast during a time frame where polyamory was so favorably reported and propagated.  Nonetheless, I hope you will care enough to let WZZM know that you were one that found the five minutes “newsâ€Â clip reprehensible and inexcusable and a poor excuse for journalism. I know that you get many communications.  You could easily blow this off.   However, it is important not to forget that it is ideas (even perverse ideas and concepts) that as they are seeded can and often do become rooted and produce fruit – whether good or poisonous fruit. Enclosed you will find contact information to WZZM.  I urge you let them know that you aren’t pleased. If you choose to withdraw from placing your advertiser dollars with them, that’s your business not mine.  Though many like us would encourage you to stand strong for that which is wholesome and honorable and builds up rather than tears down.
