MSNBC Guest Says the Bible is Not God’s Word

By: American Decency Staff

By Chris Johnson Did you know that Christians don't believe the Bible is the Word of God? That's what Time Magazine's World editor Bobby Ghosh said, anyway, on the MSNBC talk show, Hardball. Chris Matthew's fill-in host, Chuck Todd, either agreed with or didn't think that that statement was worth correcting. Either way, the idea that the Bible is not a Holy book was propagated by MSNBC.  Here's the transcript of the exchange via Mediaite. GHOSH: The thing to keep in mind that`s very important here is that the Koran to Muslims, it is not — it is not the same as the Bible to Christians. The Bible is a book written by men. It is acknowledged by Christians that it is written by men. It`s the story of Jesus. TODD: Yes. GHOSH: But the Koran, if you are a believer, if you`re a Muslim, the Koran is directly the word of God, not written by man. It is transcribed, is directly the word of God. That makes it sacred in a way that it`s hard to understand if you`re not Muslim. So the act of burning a Koran is much more — potentially much, much more inflammatory than – TODD: Directly attacking — directly attacking God. GHOSH: — than if you were to burn a — burn a Bible. TODD: Directly attacking God. I feel completely comfortable sharing this outrage with you, because I am confident that you are aware that it goes against the precepts of Christianity to take to the streets and murder people. The same cannot be said about many Muslims around the world. The context of this discussion of course is the misdirected pastor, Terry Jones', recent burning of the Koran. Last year, Jones had advertised a Koran burning on the anniversary of the 9/11 massacre which was carried out by Muslims, but had been convinced not to go through with it by the outcry from the rest of the country including many Christians and myself. This time, however, Jones' plans were not covered by the media, and no one really knew anything about it until it had taken place. Afghani president decided that he needed to make a public announcement regarding the event, and the next thing you know, 20,000 Muslims took to the streets, attacked a U.N. compound, and killed 22 people. Four days later, those protests are still going on. Also, the LA Times reports today that an Afghani police officer shot and killed 2 U.S. soldiers, presumably as part of that same protest. It's ignorant statements like that of Bobby Ghosh that reveal the media's bias against Christianity. Every time you turn on the T.V., the name of God is desecrated. South Park  and American Dad portray Jesus as some kind of insecure teenager. Curb Your Enthusiasm's Larry David pees on a picture of Christ. Not only does the Christian community not pour into the streets burning Seth McFarlane in effigy, we don't even peep. Many will even continue to watch the show that so shamelessly disrespects the Savior they claim to have made their purpose for living. Yet who is it that is called out as being extreme? Let me redirect the question. Where should the attention be focused? On the 20,000 Muslims who were part of a protest that has taken the lives of 24 uninvolved, innocent bystanders (so far) or the pastor who burned their book. Whose action is more egregious? Chuck Todd says, both. Here's how he lays out the scenario. "Basically, we have 2 sets of extremists here. We've got this extremist in Florida and a couple of extremists who took advantage of the moment to stir people up in Afghanistan." Notice that, to Todd, the protestors are not extremists, the extremists are the people who organized them. He goes on to ask Bobby Ghosh how wide spread this is in the Muslim world. Ghosh replies that "the real concern, Chuck, is that this now spreads from here – that you have other small groups of extremists in other parts of the Muslim world, that people feel like they have to do a copy cat…" This is a 20,000 strong protest and Ghosh refers to it as "small?" They go out of their way to paint a picture of radical Islam as rare. The media's uneducated, preferential treatment of Muslims is always troubling and MSNBC and their guest's misinformed and insulting treatment of our sacred text, the Bible, which we know to be the inspired Word of the One True God is even more so. If only we could find 20,000 Christians who would take to the streets, not to riot or murder nonbelievers, but to make it known that we serve a Holy God and it is not ok for the media to dishonor Him any more than it is for them to insult Islam's Allah.
