Glitter, Gingrich and gays

By: American Decency Staff

by Chris Johnson Sitting at a boring white table at a book signing yesterday, Newt Gingrich fell prey to a hit and run designer who left Newt and his table looking “simply fabulousâ€Â – coating the candidate with rainbow glitter. Incidentally, the designer also shouted, “Feel the rainbow, Newt. Stop the hate. Stop the anti-gay politics. It’s dividing our country and it’s not fixing the economy.â€Â I'm sure that had nothing to do with "decorating" Newt's table, however, because as any pro-traditional marriage activist who would try something similar with a homosexual leader would be able to tell you, that would not be very "tolerant." In fact, if the roles were reversed and someone were to throw a camouflage blanket (glitter isn't a very "straight" decoration) over the head of a gay guy and say, "stop the lies, gay guy! Marriage is between a man and woman. Stop trying to force gay marriage down our throats! It’s dividing our country and it’s not fixing the economy." – that might be considered "hate speech."According to one gay blog, Newt's staffer who got Espinosa out of Gingrich's face uttered more hate speech as he pushed the guy out the door. The Gingrich staffer stated: “So goes you, goes the rotting of our country. Have you ever seen us attend one of your events? Have we disturbed your events? Never. Peace be with you. God loves you.â€Â The blog referred to that as "creepy." Barring the Westboro Baptist crowd, which the Christian, conservative, and Republican communities pretty widely denounce as being inappropriate, when does our side castigate the homosexual movement in any way similar to this event? Another example would be the flash mob that popped up in a Target last year performing a song and dance routine that can only be described as gay in protest to some political contributions the store made to a pro-family political candidate. Still another example would be the 4,500 pro-gay protesters who showed up in Utah to protest some comments by a Latter Day Saints leader. Elder Boyd K. Packer essentially said that homosexuality is a choice. "Some suppose that they were pre-set and cannot overcome what they feel are inborn tendencies toward the impure and unnatural. Not so! Why would our Heavenly Father do that to anyone?" When has the pro-family movement showed up en masse to protest a gay event? I can't think of one time. If it did happen, it would certainly be reported by a biased media. So how is it that we are the ones considered intolerant? We, who deal with protesters by saying, "Peace be with you. God loves you." According to the Family Research Council, about 3% of the population is gay. Yet they manage to be constantly in the news, on television programs, and in PTA meetings. In spite of being such a small percentage of the population, homosexuals carry an awful lot of weight. And that's because they have successfully driven the fear of "homophobia" into our culture. Networks literally fear ticking off that 3% of the nation more than they fear the 59% who are opposed to gay marriage. School districts like our local Mona Shores, which ditched the Prom "king and queen" titles for fear of offending one transvestite student could care less what the rest of the school thinks. So who's more intolerant? The minority who forces their views onto every person who owns a TV or goes through a public school system? Or the VAST majority who just want to be left alone and not have sexual deviance mashed into their consciousness? ========================================================== Your support is important to our ability to make a difference.
