Foxnews goes tabloid

By: American Decency Staff

Yesterday we sent an email alert regarding Foxnews.com and their increasing propensity to include sleazy articles and images particularly on the section that is entitled “Feature and Faceâ€Â on their home web page. As you might expect, it did agitate a few of our readers.  We got a few more unsubscribes than usual. Nevertheless, there are many that felt this email was long overdue.  Foxnews IS guilty as charged.  They regularly feature sleazy images (and not just on their web news page). Here are some comments and a few questions that help bring further clarity to the concern. We will also include an action link for you to express concern to FoxNews.com if you haven’t already. Email #1: I'm ahead of American Decency.  I've ALREADY stopped watching Fox News like I used to because Fox News takes every opportunity to show soft porn and feature it as "news."  I probably watch it about 10% of the time I used to.  I was a defender of Fox News.  The foxnews.com website has always had soft porn on it.  (Only the kind that features females, of course.)  I don't even visit that sight anymore.  Fox, the people who support you are the ones highly disgusted by your porn attempts.  It can't go on like this.  … Mandy Email #2: Good call Bill. I have been annoyed at Fox for years for mixing good news reporting with racy materials. Thanks! Regards, J.O. Email #3: Thanks for reporting on this Bill.  I've been complaining about this problem for a long time!  Christians tend to be conservatives, which leads us to Fox News.  Then we are bombarded with garbage. Andrea Email #4: Dear Foxnews.com I watch FOX news every day and am especially an avid watcher of the Glenn Beck program. However, I am increasingly disenchanted with the website, especially the Features & Faces section. It is disappointing to see the sexual content and gossip creeping into an otherwise decent website. Our society is so bombarded with immorality and filth as is it… can't we please keep ONE NEWS WEBSITE that keeps it clean? PLEASE get rid of the sleaze and gossip and stick with the moral reporting of the facts that you do so well. Thank you. Sincerely, Waivering foxnews.com reader Email #5: Dear Foxnews.com Please, for the sake of our children, use more discretion when showing things on your website. I do not allow my children to access your Fox news site. There are things that children should not see. I would hate for you to become a bottom feeder. Keep it fair and balanced, for all ages. When one sees garbage, it becomes a part of you. I plan to keep garbage away from my children. A mother of children-ages 19 to 6 years Email #6: Thank you for this email. I had asked my husband recently WHEN some of the stuff on fox became NEWS? I am happy it is being brought to their attention. vw Email #7: Dear Foxnews: I really do want a news source like Fox to counter the liberal media. But the lewdness is offensive. Please ask yourself if you would want your daughter half-naked on your website with some sensual story. Thankyou for considering this request. sincerely, D.E. Email #8: Dear Foxnews.com I like that you are not afraid to report the conservative side of issues. But I am distressed by the sleeze and tabloid-like content that is becoming more prevalent with your offerings. Sincerely, Email #9: Former foxnews.com reader Please review, and decide to change, your recent decision to include "tabloid" features on your website, including pornographic-style photos.  This is all not necessary for your audience!  In fact, it is insulting our intelligence and character — we would have many other alternatives if we are seeking juicy, sex-related news coverage, but we are NOT.  It is not worthy of Fox News, and we wish you will DISCONTINUE TABLOID-STYLE ITEMS ON YOUR WEBSITE. As you know by now, the content has reached such a level that pornographic filters will no longer allow access to your news site — most unfortunate. Sincerely, R.R. Former foxnews.com reader Email #10: Would you address the difference between Fox News on standard Television vs Fox News Cable? I do not watch the standard news because it is raunchy and I mostly watch the cable channel because of its’ balanced coverage of all things political and the conservative views. Please do not use my name or email address if you respond to this generally. ADA comment: Both Fox News and Fox TV are owned by Fox Entertainment Group, part of Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation.  Foxnews is cable news and Fox TV is their “entertainmentâ€Â channel. Email #11: Dear Foxnews.com I would really appreciate it if you would not show sleazy photos and articles at the bottom of your front page. I regularly go to your site for balanced news and commentary. But the suggestive photos and articles at the bottom are a distraction and harmful. They do not help us readers keep our minds clean, but are doing the exact opposite. It is not a help in building a wholesome life or family or country. You may say, well, just stay at the top of the page and don't look at the bottom. That is usually what I do. But lately our internet filter has been blocking your website because of these harmful images and articles. Please help us fight the degrading of American life and media.
