Reactions to All American Muslim

By Chris Johnson The Home Depot has stated that their advertisements will no longer air during "All American Muslim." An email from Wal-Mart says they are reviewing the show to decide whether or not to continue to advertise and a response from Sears manages to say absolutely nothing in all 75 words of the email. We filled you in on Monday on The Learning Channel's New Show, "All American Muslim." In part, this was our critique the show: "While there were some elements of this show that were somewhat alarming – i.e. a man being forced to convert to Islam to marry his Muslim bride and a public school following Islamic law – I’m not afraid that these families are going to bomb a stadium or a shopping mall. What I am afraid of is that people will look at these families who are trying to maintain aspects of their culture while becoming a part of America and will forget that, while these may be perfectly warm and fuzzy people, there are many others who take the Koran more literally when it says “I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them, (Quran 8:12).â€Â We also asked our readers to send an email to the advertisers by clicking the take action link. That email read as follows: "I am writing to express concerns regarding your advertisement on TLC's new show, 'All American Muslim.' This show is shameless propaganda designed to put a happy face on a belief system that drives many people to hatred and has driven some to perform such heinous acts as the terror attacks of September 11, 2001. While 'All American Muslim' may be politically correct, it is not factually correct. There are doubtless many Muslims who are good people and love this country, but it cannot be glossed over that there are also many who hate America and want to see us destroyed.  While Muslims like those pictured in this program do not deserve mistreatment in any way, they also should not be used to reprogram the public's realization that Islam is not always peaceful. I urge you not to be a part of sponsoring this propaganda piece and refrain from advertising on this program. We urge you to continue letting the advertisers know that you're not impressed with the ideas they choose to sponsor. A few well known critics of Islam have also weighed in on "All American Muslim." This is what Robert Spencer of Jihad Watch had to say: "All American Muslim addresses nothing of [the] supremacist ideology… There is a spectrum of belief, knowledge, and fervor among Muslims, just as there is among the believers in every religion: there are people who are very knowledgeable about its doctrines and serious about putting them into practice , and others who don't know and don't care about what their religion teaches but still identify themselves as members of it, and every gradation between... (A)ll that 'All American Muslim' gives us is a denunciation of "Islamophobia" featuring Muslims who could never have conceivably inspired any suspicion of Islam in the first place. The show is a bait-and-switch. Pamella Geller, who runs AtlasShrugs.com, commented on the episode as well. "The danger is in the deception and obfuscation of the truth, which result in the intellectual disarming of the American people.  'All American Muslim' is trying to show nominal Muslims as the norm, as if their existence takes away the threat from devout Muslims…  Clearly this program is an attempt to manipulate Americans into ignoring the threat of jihad and to bully them into thinking that being concerned about the jihad threat would somehow victimize these nice people in this show. The problem is not people, it's ideology. The show doesn't address that."
