… needed more than ever

By: American Decency Staff

A couple of close friends of this ministry have recently said to me:  “This ministry is needed more than ever.” If you think so too, I urge you to do what others are pledging to do – increase their giving for the coming year and help us with as generous a gift as possible at the close of this year.

As we come to the close of another year, we recognize perhaps more than ever that our beloved America is struggling on many different fronts.   Our embattlement and decline has been brought about not so much from enemies without, but from our rapid spiritual and moral decline within.

President John Adams writing on October 11, 1798 stated in his address to the military:
“We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion.  Avarice, ambition, revenge, or gallantry, would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net.  Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people.  It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”

It is the heart cry of ADA to lift up the moral, the religious – the holy – in that region where faith and culture intersect.

In a day of increasing financial difficulty, though, each of us has to be exercising increasing levels of discernment and wisdom as to how we spend our money, prepare for the future, and make determinations as to which ministries we will support.

Is it God’s will that the ADA continue ministering in His name in the coming year(s)?  We believe it is.

Our report entitled “American Decency 2012 in Review” is a testament of what we do.

Following are several personal accounts as well as comments from others regarding the work of ADA.

First a few of my personal accounts.

(1) I  received a phone call from a mine worker from the upper peninsula of Michigan.  He had lived a godless life, been divorced, and his life was a mess.  Christ called this dear, redeemed saint out of darkness in recent years as a 59 year old.   This new friend called to tell me what a blessing our monthly bulletin insert is to him.  Recently, he supported us with his first financial gift.

(2) I received a call from a wife whose husband was heavily addicted to pornography.  I provided her with the telephone number of a Biblical counselor in West Michigan.  I also sent her several worthwhile resources – books and a DVD.  Weeks after, she sent me a heartwarming letter of thanks for the support that we had provided her.

(3) As you may recall, prior to the election, we were sending out free DVDs called “One Nation Under God.”  It is a powerful 2 hour DVD on the importance of getting out the vote.  We sent out thousands of those DVDs coast to coast.  A woman in Southern California called us regularly seeking additional orders of multiple DVDs – sometimes ordering 70 at a time which we would send, asking for only $3.00 to help with shipping.  One day this activist woman reported that her local movie theater allowed her to show the DVD free of charge at the local theater to a packed house.  She also distributed those DVDs to pastors throughout communities in the San Diego area.

(4) I received a call from a dear friend from Mt. Pleasant, Michigan.  She was calling to seek help to find someone who would come to a City Council meeting as the city was considering whether to pass a gay rights ordinance.  She was distressed and frustrated that she couldn’t find a pastor to represent Biblical truth.  I drove over to Mt. Pleasant at the appointed time.  There was an audience of between 150-200 people.   Sadly, I was the only person to oppose the gay rights proposal.  Every indication was that the overwhelming majority of those in attendance supported gay rights.

(5) I received a call from a married woman from Maryland.  She was heartbroken as her husband (who was a man of position) had become addicted to pornography.  She didn’t know know where else to turn.  After hearing of her husband’s situation and their location, I referred her to Pat Trueman who once headed the Child Exploitation and Obscenity Enforcement Section in Washington, DC.  An appointment was made.  She expressed great gratitude.

(6) My friends at the American Family Association called me asking if I could help them find a person(s) who would attend the Motor City Pride parade in Detroit to see whether Home Depot had some kind of promotional there.  My wife and I drove early in the morning and attended the parade.   Though we were able to report that Home Depot was not present (though make no mistake they still are a major boycott target for their promotion of the homosexual agenda), we did find that Fifth Third Bank was a significant promoter of the event and of homosexuality.   We since have communicated our concern both personally to our local bank and via a letter to the national headquarters.  Receiving no satisfaction from Fifth Third’s response, American Decency Association has withdrawn all of our banking from Fifth Third Bank.

Notes from supporters:

Friend of ADA:  Thank you so much for your efforts and the efforts of your group.  It restores our faith in mankind during these troubling times.  May God bless each and every one of you.  …  I must tell you that I truly enjoy your news on the American Decency Update each month.  I always talk it over with my sister.  I also give it to my pastor …..

J.F.:   Bill, your voice is like a beacon  from a lighthouse shining through the fogginess of this society.

J.L.:  … My continued compliments to you for your enduring efforts in this struggle for so many years.  You and others like you will no doubt face daunting opposition and persecution.  The cultural shift to accepted immorality is so intense I sometimes wonder if we haven’t crossed the Rubicon.  But with God all things are possible and it is our duty, win or lose, to serve Him.

N.S.:  Thank you for the important work you do to keep us informed.  I plan to increase my pledge from $10 to $15. this coming year.  God bless you all!

Over these years as the head of this ministry in all sincerity, I don’t believe I have ever been guilty of being pushy regarding fundraising.  I don’t ever want our ministry to be thought of as greedy.  However, there are times, and this is one of them, when I would be remiss in being shy in asking.  I am asking for your increased support today.  I say with all honesty and conviction, that ADA is needed now more than ever before!  The Holy Spirit is stirring us onward into the fight.   Please help us boldly proclaim the truth.
