The garbage on TV: Haiti and the U.S.

As we experience our country’s moral downward slide, we’re foolish if we think somehow we deserve better. There are basic principles that have been characteristic of God and of His loving response toward those whom He created. God has been very gracious and merciful to this great country.   Without a doubt, America was founded on Christian principles. His blessings are clear!  However, there is also ample evidence that America, like many other nations, has rebelled against God. Case in point:  America’s airwaves.  Quite frequently, I hear people say: “You can’t turn on television without seeing filth.â€Â Here are a few programs often cited American Dad, Family Guy, Cleveland Show, Desperate Housewives, Grey’s Anatomy, Gossip Girl, Two and a Half Men, ad nauseum. God blesses those who obey and curses those who don’t. How does this apply to America? He disciplines to get His people’s attention that they will return in obedience seeking His loving hand. How can any of us say that we love the Lord and then entertain ourselves with lust-producing filth and then act as if all is well in America?  Millions of American homes allow pornography and obscenity into their living room nightly via their televisions, computers and/or cell phones, and somehow act surprised at the rapidly advancing turmoil in America. “Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts …â€Â [Romans 1:24-32] I noted when I spoke at many local churches over the years that pointing out particular shows as above generally didn’t  set too well.    I, at times, felt like I had leprosy after my presentations upon asking the question: “How can we say that we love Jesus and at the same time place before ourselves wicked things?â€Â Closing:  There are no easy fixes to what we are witnessing.  A good starting point is to examine our own hearts, turn from our own sins, humble ourselves and seek His face.  We need to face our hypocrisy where it exists.  God blesses those who obey and follow His Word. In Haiti, we discover that voodoo is a leading religion.
