Resisting Evil and Standing for What is Pleasing to the Lord!

There is an assault upon the hearts, minds and souls of our youth.  We must help them learn to resist it at all costs. Having a 2 year-old grandson and a 4 year-old granddaughter living with us brings fresh reminder of the needs of parents and of young children!  The following incident from last night was a vivid reminder of the importance of daily keeping Christ right before the very eyes and souls of our loved ones!!!It's a real treat to teach a little 4 year old the words to such favorites as "My B-I-B-L-E,"  "Deep and Wide," and "This Little Light of Mine."  We sing them together most every night. Last night, after being gone for several days to our daughter Jenny's place in Pennsylvania, we came home tired from the 12 hours on the road. With bedtime upon us, 2 year-old Danny brought out our little song book and made it rather obvious that he wanted to do our nightly devotions. Mia said “I’d like ‘commotions’ too.â€Â  How can a grandpa say no to that? So we picked up our nightly devotions right where we left off before our trip. So many households are being decimated by problems of our own making.  Everything else as priority before time with the Lord.  Everything else before time with our kids.  What is everything else?   Fill in the blanks ___________, ___________, ___________, ___________, __________, ___________. Not everyone’s blanks will be the same but here are a few that are common to many:  television, computer, cell phone, movies, entertainment, sports, beach, “family timeâ€Â, self. To see little children long to go to church, to sing songs of praise to the Lord, to want to pray around the dinner table is a real treat; to want to do right, to say “I’m sorryâ€Â when they have done wrong.  These are blessings and displays of a heart inclined to do what’s right, to trust and obey. What about you and me?  It must begin with us.  Indeed, there is an assault upon our lives and families.  If we don’t have Christ in our hearts and minds – feeding upon His Word every day – we will have no spiritual food with which to feed others because we have nothing at all to give out that is alive and real. We must first be fed by Him! The assault promises to get heavier. Our kids need the blessing of God and the strength of walking in Him and learning how to live for Him for now and all eternity. Forgive us Lord and let us TRULY humble ourselves and make seeking your face our lifestyle because it IS who we are.
