Put the crisis of pornography on Congress’ agenda –

By: Steve Huston

Pornography:  A battle that must be fought! In 1987, I visited the U.S. Justice Department and met with the head of the Child Exploitation and Obscenity Enforcement Section.  It was Rob Showers.  Meeting with us was also his assistant Pat Trueman who shortly thereafter succeeded Showers in that leadership capacity. Often we find that those who serve in such roles use the position to advance to a “higherâ€Â more ranking government post. Pat Trueman is not such an individual.  It was abundantly clear then that he was the right man for that position.  He was clearly more than just occupying that important post.  Now years after Pat Trueman served in the Justice Department, he continues his fight against illegal pornography. (Pat lost his position at the U.S. Justice Department when Bill Clinton became President in 1993). Last summer Pat was the featured speaker at our summer event at our headquarters.  His passionate concern for our country was abundantly clear to all in attendance. In recent months, Pat with the support of a number of others, has launched a powerful website that has been drawing significant positive attention.  See: http://pornharms.com/ Pat with the encouragement and backing of many within the national anti-pornography movement is stepping up in leading a new organization called: “War on Illegal Pornographyâ€Â. Here is his direct contact information: PATRICK A. TRUEMAN Director/Attorney At Law War on Illegal Pornography 703-938-1776 10350 Southam Lane Oakton, VA 22124 I received the following urgent request from Pat yesterday.  I responded to this simple request and urge you to do the same!  Please do it today. TAKE TWO MINUTES TO MAKE SURE THE U. S. CONGRESS PUTS THE CRISIS OF PORNOGRAPHY ON ITS AGENDA. We cannot let the issue of pornography get lost in the next Congress, especially if Republicans control one or both Houses as expected.  That new Congress, which starts the first of the year, will have many new faces and a new agenda.  With federal prosecutions against the porn crime syndicates at a dead stop and the harm from pornography now overwhelming America, we need to have this near the top of the agenda – not an afterthought! We need a Congressional hearing about the harms – the fact that children are developing serious psychological problems from a diet of hardcore adult porn and some becoming sexual predators; that addiction to porn is now a common side effect of steady porn consumption, that violence against women is a stable of porn and that is profoundly changing attitudes of men and boys; that sex-trafficking is a by-product of porn, etc. etc.  We need Congress to require that appropriations for the Department of Justice and FBI be used to enforce existing obscenity laws.  We need Congress to get agreements from those appointed to the Department of Justice to enforce obscenity laws.  And there is more to do.  In short, we need the U.S. Congress to be aware of the crisis that pornography is causing in America and take action! NOW THERE IS SOMETHING YOU CAN DO TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN.  YOU can make a real difference if you would just take two minutes NOW. Republicans in Congress want YOU to suggest government policies for the next Congress and they are collecting comments now.  They have a new website called America Speaking Out where people may post statements urging specific policies and others may vote yes or no on your policy. Of course they won't adopt just any idea – only those that comport with their values will be seriously considered. I have been advised by a key person in Congress that if we want to make sure that the issue of pornography gets attention, we can post a policy statement on the website, get hundreds of people to support it and then in mid-September when the leadership filters through the statements posted they will know people care about pornography. I wrote a good statement on pornography for the site and now I need you to do two things: go to the site and vote "yes" and second, forward this email to your friends.  Those group or church leaders should also forward this to your entire list and post on your website.  Here is the statement: http://www.AmericaSpeakingOut.com/users/79062/ptrueman/my/questions Please click and vote now. Your yes vote will make a difference.
