I received the following email from Jack who almost always takes me to task when I  rite an email about such things as my email yesterday regarding the eroticism of the Detroit Piston’s Automotion (cheerleaders). Below I share Jack’s thoughts followed by my response. Bill: You never learn, do you? People actually LIKE the sort of entertainment provided by such cheerleaders/dance teams like Automotion. Some people actually like looking at pretty girls doing athletic dance moves. There's not a darn thing erotic about it. If you think there is then you are sadly mistaken. I actually support what Detroit is doing. Ditto for any other sports team that does so. If you have an animus against this then that's your deal. Don't ruin it for the majority out there that actually likes something like this. Contrary to your way of thinking not everyone that partakes of such displays is a stark, raving masturbatory loon. People can actually look at a pretty girl in a bikini or dance costume and appreciate what they see for the beauty of it. If you can't you are one sorry person. It's people like you that keep psychiatrists employed, trying to sort out a person's neuroses. Jack … ============================================= My response: Jack: I don’t question whether some people actually like the “entertainment provided by such cheerleaders/dance teams like Automotion. …â€Â However, pornography is “Every man’s battle.â€Â You like to play me as some kind of unusual creature from another planet who is so out of touch with TODAY. No Jack. Pornography IS every man’s battle and though there are those who are able to get far beyond leering and lusting there are many others that struggle throughout their lives. We hear about them too regularly in the news (Judges, prosecutors, priests, pastors, police, scout leaders, teachers, coaches, principals, etc.) Some of these live in denial and act as if pornography is victimless. How about you, Jack? Once I struggled. I have written and spoken about that many times. I know where my victory came from and comes from. You’re probably going to hate this Jack – my overcoming lust came through Christ. My faithfulness to my wife in fact and in my thought life comes through Christ working in me. Christ knows how we are made and what we are made of. He knows that we are sinners in need of a Savior. His desire is to set the captives free. He knows we are prone to wander. Bible truths and Scripture that have helped me. Psalm 101:3a Hebrews 12:14 I Peter 1:15,16 Romans 12:1,2 Matthew 5:27-30 Philippians 1:6 God’s call for His people is to be holy for He is Holy. We are to pursue holiness and by the grace of God we can become more and more like Him. Yet, we all far short of the glory of God and will not reach that state of perfection until that day when we see Jesus on the other side. But many won’t ever see that day as “broad is the way that leads to destruction. Narrow is the way that leads to eternal life.â€Â [Matthew 7:13] That’s not what I say. That’s what the Bible says. As we live our lives on this side of Heaven, we increasingly see the evidence of decay: brokenness, deceit, deception, lies, cheating, adultery, perversion, godlessness, homosexuality. In closing, you ask the rhetorical question, “You never learn, do you?â€Â I guess the best way to answer that is with this observation. “The proof is in the pudding.â€Â I don’t know you and you don’t know me. But God knows both of us better than any man. Am I? Are you learning and growing in Him and being prepared for that great day? If not there will be a day of great gnashing of teeth, of eternal judgment.
