In these days of desensitization, accommodation and addiction, here is some powerful counsel of warning and challenge. We hear less and less regarding conflict in the home relative to television program selections and in differences between spouses. Why is that? Is it because individuals hungering for purity just get tired of fighting trashy television and their mate? It is vital that Christians not get sucked in to watching unseemly television programs. Keep on standing for what is right and true and decent!  With another new television season about to begin, here are some important considerations. Consequences when you watch godless television. “… An alcoholic who keeps liquor in the house is making provision for the flesh. A drug user who maintains contact with those who sell it is making provision for the flesh. Anyone who makes provision for the flesh cannot hope to experience victory over sinful habits. In fact, those who are experiencing freedom in Christ do not try to see how close they can get to the world and still be considered a good Christian. Instead, they see how close they can get to the Lord to enjoy His fellowship. They have learned how to flee youthful lusts. Their motto is ‘Others may, but I cannot.’ You experience guilt by violating the moral laws that God wrote in your heart. “Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one anotherâ€Â (Romans 2:15). You damage your marriage by committing mental adultery. “But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heartâ€Â (Matthew 5:28). You promote prostitution by engaging in lewdness for hire. “They have eyes full of adultery, insatiable for sin. They entice unsteady souls. They have hearts trained in greed. Accursed children!â€Â (II Peter 2:14). You lay the foundation for insanity by having gratification without responsibility. “A double-minded man is unstable in all his waysâ€Â (James 1:8) (See also Romans 1:28). You sow seeds of destruction to your flesh. “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reapâ€Â (Galatians 6:7). You increase violent crime in the nation. “Do not profane your daughter by making her a prostitute, lest the land fall into prostitution and the land become full of depravityâ€Â (Leviticus 19:29). You dull your spiritual senses and grieve the Holy Spirit. “For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other …â€Â (Galatians 5:17). You promote the goal of humanism, which is to enjoy whatever pleasure lust suggests. “Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedienceâ€Â (Ephesians 5:6).
