On keeping women barefoot and pregnant

Bill: Read your latest screed against SI Swimsuit and how it supposedly [dis] respects women. Did you ever stop to think that maybe these women WANT to be in this issue? That maybe they are proud of what they are and what they have and wish others to see it as well? Have you ever stopped to think that modern women like to be thought of as sexual creatures? You and others of your kind want to keep women bare foot and pregnant and be stay-at-home moms. Modern women don't necessarily want the old order but want to fulfill all that they believe they can be. When are you going to realize that no matter how hard you try you are  NEVER EVER going to change society to the narrow vision you think it should be? There are people that like SI Swimsuit as it is, thank you very much. Jack

ADA response: We acknowledge that there was a day in our country when women wouldn’t have so readily made themselves available to be photographed in the nude.  There were many years when to be photographed in Playboy was an admission of being cheap, prostitute-like. Nonetheless, despite the fact that there are apparently many who are willing to be used as masturbatory stimulants for ogling men and who are willing to receive money for exhibiting themselves in sexually provocative ways, most of us would be heartbroken to have our daughters and/or granddaughters fall prey to that form of prostitution. In response to your statement that we want to “keep women bare foot and pregnant and be stay-at home momsâ€Â, you certainly have a narrow view of those who believe in modesty, integrity, the pursuit of holiness, living a committed Christian life. I can’t speak for others but I will say this.  I wouldn’t want to hold my daughters back from any God-honoring opportunity that may arise for them, but the key is God-honoring.  Working in Hooters, writing for Cosmopolitan magazine, working as a stripper, posing for Playboy or Sports Illustrated is not honoring to God, degrades the image of God in their lives, and can and does lead to pornography addictions  which ultimately can contribute to a furtherance of immorality, sexual addictions, pre-marital sex, lust/adultery, unfaithfulness, godlessness. Lastly, you ask the question “When are you going to realize that no matter how hard you try you are NEVER EVER going to change society to the narrow vision you think it should be?â€Â Jack:  You are absolutely correct.  I am NEVER EVER going to change society to the narrow vision that I think it should be.   But that shouldn’t be surprising to you if you know anything at all about Christ for He is whom I follow and it is He who has set me free from the bondages of the very sin that destroys those who choose the broad way that you so clearly identify with. I know what destroys.  I know what builds up.  I stand strongly and faithfully against that which destroys.  I stand strongly and faithfully for that which builds up. When it’s all said and done at the end of our days when we are old and gray and death is nearing would you rather have had your loved ones build their lives upon the solid rock of God and His standards of Truth, righteousness, love, forgiveness, mercy, holiness and grace or upon pornography, lusting, leering, lies, immodesty, unfaithfulness, sleaze, ungodliness? I think the answer is clear.  When will I realize that no matter how hard I try I will NEVER, EVER change society to the narrow vision I think it should be.  But Jack, it isn’t up to me.  It’s up to my Lord and Savior.  I am merely being faithful to the calling that God has called me to. I’m called to be faithful.  I’m not called to be successful.  God will take care of the success.  Those who hear His voice and follow Him will be saved from the wickedness upon this earth and from the ultimate wickedness and destruction that will follow.  By His grace, may you see the light of the Gospel, Jesus Christ, that the veil of darkness be removed from your spiritually blind eyes, that you may see Him in all of His glory and ask that your sins be forgiven that you too have the empowerment by His Holy Spirit to walk the narrow way.
