Probably the biggest incident that has evoked the most public outrage towards Washington D.C. in recent years was the passing of the President’s health care reform bill in March of this year. Amid allegations of death panels, raised costs, inefficiency, and socialization of the medical field, the legislation was passed in spite of the fact that the public overwhelmingly rejected it.If any were in doubt of the goal that the president strives toward with this healthcare overhaul, his recent appointment to Director of Medicare and Medicaid Service should confirm the worst fears. Wednesday, President Barack Obama gave control of Medicare and Medicaid to Dr. Donald Berwick. Berwick is pediatrician, Harvard professor, and patient care specialist, but more importantly he is a socialist – at least when it comes to medicine. If you doubt he is a socialist, here is the definition of socialism according to dictionary.com: A theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole. – i.e. spread the wealth. Here is a quote from the man that Obama squeezed through loop holes to head government medical services: Any healthcare funding plan that is just, equitable, civilized, and humane must, MUST, redistribute wealth from the richer among us to the poorer and the less fortunate. Excellent health care is by definition redistribution. Logically, then: Excellent health care is redistribution of wealth. Redistribution of wealth is socialism. Therefore, (according to Berwick) excellent health care is socialism. Obama’s appointment of Berwick also settles the argument of whether there will be rationing of care. The new director of government-run health care makes his position clear: [t]he decision is not whether or not we will ration care – the decision is whether we will ration with our eyes open. This leaves us with a lot of questions, one of which is what kind of president goes out of his way to appoint Marxists (unfortunately Berwick is not the first)? I’ll let you answer that yourself. Another is how did such a radical appointee get through congress? Unfortunately, these days it would not be surprising if they had confirmed him, but the president saved them the embarrassment by giving Berwick his new position through recess appointment. Recess appointment is a Constitutional right of the president. However, like many powers granted to the government by the Constitution, it is often misused. For the first several years of our country, Congress was in session for less than half of the year. As this was what the founders had in mind for our legislative branch, they endowed the president with the right to appoint to crucial positions while Congress was in recess. These appointments serve until the end of the next session of Congress. Lately, however, and several times in this presidency, recess appointments have been made to instate radicals into positions of high power. This is another example of this administration’s disregard for the laws, traditions, and wishes of our country and its citizens.
