Nothing sexual about the Bullock/Johansson kiss at the MTV Movie Awards?

After yesterdays e-mail alert mentioned Sandra Bullock and Scarlett Johanssen’s random kiss at the MTV music awards, we have received several e-mails questioning the outrageousness of this topic. One of our favorite dissenters puts it this way: “You are an idiot.There was absolutely nothing sexual about the Bullock/Johansson kiss at the MTV Movie Awards. That was just something to show how idiotic the lamestream press can be with regards to Hollywood people. You know, give 'em something and see if a mountain can be made out of a molehill. Which is exactly (what) you are doing. And you're giving her (Sandra Bullock) more free press!â€Â On the one hand, I can kind of see his point. It was clearly a comedic gaffe and not a passion filled smooch. I’m pretty sure no one thinks Ms. Bullock is a lesbian after seeing this video. But the mainstream media isn’t picking up on this at all. That’s one of the problems. Consider the way Gawker presents the issue: "Remember When Lesbian Kisses Actually Meant You Were a Lesbian?â€Â I think that sums it up quite nicely. Why is lesbian activity becoming “normalâ€Â for straight women in the spotlight? A few years ago, the kiss between Madonna and Britney Spears at MTV’s music awards was the subject on everyone’s lips. That kiss had everyone wondering who was straight and who wasn’t and what it was all about. That kiss had public attention and outrage. Some even say that moment was what ruined Spears’ career. I’m not saying that this kiss should doom Sandra Bullock as an actress. What I am saying is that images impact.  Ideas impact.  Sandra Bullock advertently or inadvertently impacted untold numbers of people – young and old – who will in one situation or another do likewise. Look, it’s not cute.  It’s not funny.  So what if it’s just meant to be  edgy.   It sends a confusing/mixed message even though she stated immediately following the kiss “Now back to normal.â€Â In addition if you watch the video clip, Sandra Bullock prances up the steps and on to the stage in a little sexualized mini-skirt parading herself before a watching world. Yes, Sandra, you’re hot – you make that very clear.  But what about your character?  Your morals? Are you building up your family? Our society is moving rapidly toward Gomorrah.  There are many reasons for this but certainly one of the reasons is that there are a multiplicity of people in the limelight who when given the opportunity to do what’s right, to say what’s right, and to live rightly instead are showcasing their body, their foul mouth, their godlessness. To be able to hear God’s Word and to have it penetrate your heart, to understand it, to be convicted by it and to receive it as Truth and to let God apply it your heart.  What a gift. What a blessing. What a help.  Living for Jesus lovingly and obediently.  It can keep you from a lot of troubles (broken marriages, adultery, pornography addictions, homosexuality and other perversions). Many look to Sandra Bullock types for how to live and how to be cool. That’s a big mistake.  Sandra Bullock may garner the acclaim and awards of mankind, but living by the Truth of God’s Word is what will lead to the only reward that really matters. ================================== Understanding God’s Holiness is a vital part of understanding God’s plan for our lives.
