Let these advertisers of filth hear from you re: American Dad and Cleveland Show

By: American Decency Staff

First, a correction and apology: Some of you have alerted us to a response you received from Verizon Wireless claiming Verizon was not a sponsor of the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show as we had listed. After receiving that word, we reviewed the recorded advertisements from this program. The ad we attributed to Verizon was for a Droid phone. While Verizon has advertised Droid phones in the past, this ad on the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show for Droid phones was actually by Motorola, not Verizon. (Although the fine print at the end of this ad stated the Droid was available at Verizon, this advertisement on Victoria’s Secret was a Motorola ad – not Verizon.) Because Verizon in the past had advertised Droid phones, this is how the product had been entered in our database and so as we entered the products advertised on the Victoria’s Secret show, this product was attributed to Verizon, instead of Motorola. We will make sure to correct this and we sincerely apologize for the error. Mistakes such as this have been extremely rare in our long history of television and radio monitoring. Typically when a company claims not to have advertised on a program, after we stated they did, we have been able to prove their ad was on the show in question.   However, this time the error was ours and we will use this mistake as a reminder to be even more vigilant in the future. We have communicated our apologies to Verizon and do to you, our readers, as well. While we are chagrined by the above-mention mistake, it also indicates that corporate America does listen to your communications! That is why we must continue to hold advertisers accountable for the content they sponsor. For if there is no one holding the line, imagine a day when you turn on network television during the so-called family hour and what you and your family see are depictions of masturbation; sodomy; gruesome, bloody violence; explicit sexual references and verbiage, promotion of binge drinking, etc. etc. You may rightly say we aren’t that far away from this. And yet as bad as network television has become, as perverse and crude the content and so-called humor of current nightly sitcoms, there are still lines that haven’t been crossed. You won’t turn network television on tonight and hear, for example, a mother explicitly instructing her daughter on how to “pleaseâ€Â a man with anal sex. That is, unless you turn on Fox’s animated “American Dad.â€Â This repulsive discussion between a mother and daughter actually was featured on Sunday night’s American Dad and is just one of the disgusting scenes featured on this episode. In fact all of the above-mentioned perversities were included in this episode and/or the preceding Cleveland Show on Fox and are regular fare of Fox’s trio of American Dad, Cleveland Show, and Family Guy. Weekly these three feature the most shocking content – obviously with a stamp of approval from Fox (the same company that brings us Fox News) and with impunity from the FCC. Content that would never make it past even today’s weak broadcast standards, is allowed and condoned on these animated shows. And it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out the age of the audience drawn to these cartoons and exposed to such explicit, vulgar themes. I could write pages citing examples of the content from these shows proving how shockingly perverse they are, yet just the one mentioned above should be proof enough. The best way to oppose these shows is to urge advertisers not to sponsor them. Click below to urge the sponsors of Sunday night’s episodes of American Dad and Cleveland Show to refrain from empowering these shows. (A Family Guy episode was not televised this past Sunday.)
