Facebook’s Filters Fall Short in Blocking Pedophiles

By Steve Ensley Ok folks!  I’ve been saying this for months and months and months and finally …. .Yes, finally a major news outlet has confirmed what you and I already know.  Facebook and social sites in general (so not just facebook), have a dark side.  When anyone can post anything at any time, this is what you get, the social form of anarchy.  So is Facebook evil, no absolutely not!  Are there evil things on Facebook?  Without question there are tons of evil content on Facebook.  So what do we as Christians do about it? We do the same thing we would when confronted with any other sin.  We first try to avoid it!  In the Lord’s prayer, Jesus said “…and lead us not into temptation.â€ÂÂ  These are not just filler words.  I believe Jesus knew that it would better for us to avoid temptation than to try to resist temptation. When we engage in social sites, we are making it harder to avoid temptation, but more importantly we are exposing ourselves to those WHO HAVE NO INTENTION OF AVOIDING TEMPTATION!  I know this is an old song, but folks, when are we going to wake up!  Do we have to have a family member seriously hurt before we take action?  Do we have to see a child fall off a cliff before we take steps to make sure they don’t play near the cliff!  It makes no sense to wait until someone is hurt.  Take steps now! If you have children using Facebook, you MUST check their profile and activities  routinely, every day if necessary!  If you have a spouse spending a lot of time on Facebook, you better be knowing what is going on for their sake.  That isn’t spying or distrusting, it is actually caring enough to intervene when a train wreck is coming!  Don’t let the PC (politically correct) crowd bully you into false claims of privacy. First of all social sites have NO privacy, secondly, the spiritual, mental and physical well being of your family trumps any PC postion and always will! I have been labeled by some as a fear monger, the truth is I’ve seen the destruction up close and it isn’t pretty!  Please don’t be the next victim!
