You’ve heard the phrase, “so-and-so is so heavenly-minded they’re of no earthly good.â€Â Well, I find it hard to believe that could be the case. A person who has his or her mind so set on Christ can’t help but make a difference in this world. After all, we are called to be in the world, but not of it. However, I am saddened to say, that for many American Christians the opposite seems to be the case – being too earthly minded. We get caught up in the pleasures of this world instead of holding up all that we do and say to the Word of God. We compromise and compartmentalize our faith, rationalizing away those “littleâ€Â sins or “guilty pleasures.â€Â Instead of seeking after the things of Christ, we first seek the things that make us happy. And so it is always encouraging to see someone open to the Spirit’s leading and choosing to take a stand and obey God. We received the email below from one of our readers after our email alert on Monday shedding light on the concerning program Glee, airing on the Fox Network. Glee is extremely popular with teens and preteens, as well as adults. It’s a show that can be very entertaining which draws in viewers who then are slowly and seductively fed a diet of eroticism and secularism. (see https://americandecency.org/archives/glee-%e2%80%93-not-fit-for-family-viewing/ for more information.) Note: See “Take Actionâ€Â link below to contact the advertisers that sponsored last night’s episode of Glee. The writer of this letter has asked what we each should ask ourselves. Does this choice to watch this show, read that book or magazine, go to that movie, listen to that song, etc. please and glorify God? This is one person’s conclusion and response: ******************************* “I just wanted to thank you for writing the article on "Glee" this past week. I'm a Christian & I've been watching that show since it debuted last year. However, for quite awhile now I've been praying about if I should continue to watch it or not, & I was even wondering recently if you'd be singling out that show for readers to take "action" against. (I considered e'g you to suggest that you tackle that show, but then I rec'd your email re: it!!)  After reading your excellent article, I felt confirmation that the Lord was indeed telling me to stop watching (i.e. supporting) it. I then felt led to send out an email (see copy below) to all my friends re: "Glee" (& I included at the bottom your email that you sent out). I've rec'd only positive responses from friends so far, thanking me for sending it out…one went so far as to say that she was going to post my email on Facebook! So maybe that'll help our cause. “One more side note – I have a 16-yr old Christian son who also loves "Glee" & we had been watching it together 'til last week. I had a talk w/him re: God dealing w/my heart about viewing the show & told him that I was going to obey God & no longer watch it. My dilemma is that he still wants to watch it, saying that he doesn't agree with it, but still enjoys the show. I tried to explain that by watching it, he's "supporting" it, but he's not convicted about it as I am. At this point, I haven't forbidden him to watch it (I plan to talk to my husband about the matter to get his take on it), but I'm praying that God will deal with his heart. I really don't want to get to the point where I have to forbid him to watch it. I just wanted to bring your attention to that side of it, too – that our Christian teens are being sucked into it, & they're not as sensitive to the Holy Spirit yet in their young Christian walks. “Thank you again for encouraging us Christians to "fight the good fight" & not lose hope or give up. I appreciate all the great work you're doing!â€Â In Him, D.A. *************************************************************************************** This writer than went on to be salt and light herself, sending the letter below to friends, encouraging them to take such a stand. Think of the influence if we each did the same! ***************************************************************************************** Subj: This Christian's Take on "GLEE" Hey, everyone, “I don't know about you, but I loved "Glee" in the beginning 'cuz of my singing background. I was hopeful that this new variety/character-driven series would stand out from the rest & be a safe, clean show for families. However, the producers have increasingly gone over the edge re: homosexuality, sex, suggestive songs/dances, etc. with every new episode, especially in this 2nd season. I wrote to Fox & creator Ryan Murphy & asked them to do something about cleaning up the show, but obviously nothing has been done. I gave it one more chance last week but, again, I was appalled & saddened at the content. “So now I choose to take a stand & obey God by NOT WATCHING THIS SHOW ANYMORE. I hope you'll join me. I have to admit that it was a hard decision because "Glee" really appeals to me, so I kept telling myself, "Well, maybe it won't be so bad next week." I realized how easy it is to get caught up in the excitement of a "song & dance" series like this, but God is teaching me more & more that we Christians (at the risk of being labeled "prudes") need to be ever mindful of what we allow to permeate our hearts & minds, & we should especially protect our kids. The media these days seeks to undermine our morals & get us so used to seeing homosexuality, polygamy, profanity & immorality as supposedly "normal" in day-to-day life & families that we become desensitized to it. And – sad to say – it's working…the devil is wearing us down. “PLEASE CLICK BELOW TO HELP FIGHT what Ryan Murphy (an "out & proud homosexual") is attempting to do – have the general public lower our standards more & more 'til there's no restriction of sex on TV (see his shocking quote in RED below)â€Â (Editor’s note: The link referred to is ADA’s email alert referenced above. https://americandecency.org/archives/glee-%e2%80%93-not-fit-for-family-viewing/ ) ************************************* May each of us examine our own lives and entertainment choices, rooting out that which is displeasing to the Lord and also seek ways to be salt and light. One easy way to do so is to contact the advertisers that sponsored last night’s episode of Glee, urging them to pull their support from this concerning show. Some of last night’s Glee advertisers included: Chevrolet, Old Navy, Microsoft, American Express, Pantene. Take Action!
