Athletic performance, condoms and eternity

By: American Decency Staff

Apparently, the International Olympic Committee expected the athletes in the Olympic Village to give their best performance in more than just their sports. The IOC oversaw the distribution of over 100,000 condoms at the 2010 Winter Olympics this past month. In fact, the Olympic Games have given out condoms since 1992. During the summer games in Sydney, the original order of 70,000 ran out and 20,000 more had to be rushed in. At the next games, in Athens, 130,000 were distributed. Beijing handed out 100,000. How many are used is impossible to be determined, but based on the analysis of former table tennis athlete Matthew Syed the temptation would be too strong for many to resist. “Women from all the countries of the world: muscular, virile, athletic and oozing estrogen. I spent so much time in a state of lust that I could have passed out.â€Â Although condom dissemination has been going on at the Olympics without much attention for almost a decade, this year’s Winter Olympics brought more attention to the athletes’ sexuality and the goings on in the Olympic Village. The UK’s Dailymail.com recently announced the medal winners for smuttiness in the Vancouver Winter Olympics. Bronze goes to one of Germany’s female curlers of whom topless pictures emerged in time to be made public at the games. She had posed for a photo shoot to raise money for local ice-skating rinks. The silver medal went to our very own bronze medal winning snow boarder Scotty Lago who was sent home after compromising pictures came out of a woman kissing the bronze medal which was positioned right over Lago’s nether regions. And the Gold went to Norwegian Cross-country Skier Odd-Bjoern  Hjelmeset who blamed a poor run that dropped him from gold to silver medal on having watched too much porn in the past two weeks. A runner up is the Canadian women’s hockey team, who after beating the United States immediately broke out the booze without waiting until they were off the ice. Their star player, Marie-Philip Poulin, is 18 and under Canada’s legal age limit of 19. Also, one reporter called Vancouver “the drunkest Olympics ever.â€Â So in an event where each country sends their highest skilled and most disciplined athletes this is how they represent their countries?  How can a two week contest that takes place every four years have so many separate scandals? A few further notes.  How awesome it must be to have a child or a grandchild earn a spot on their national team – let alone come home a medal winner! To see your loved one at the winner’s circle on the highest rung receiving a medal – the tears that must flow as a parent considering all the discipline, sacrifice and relentless training that has gone into that high moment and supreme accomplishment. Greater still is witnessing the development of a son, a daughter who takes on the yoke of faith and faithfully follows Jesus Christ; accompanied by spiritual maturity: integrity, servanthood, humility, endurance, patience, peace, joy, love. And to see them in turn raising their child steadfastly  in the nurture and admonition of the Lord! A contrast: It’s a grievous thing to see those representing our country or any country living lives of debauchery.   It places a stain upon their names, their award, their country, their family. And, sadly, such behavior (drinking, fornication, adultery, etc.) leads to their demise (even eternal demise) if not remedied. Olympics and immorality?  Without a doubt there are athletes that live their lives above scandal and immorality. Let’s hope that athletes that represent our country in the future can carry their athletic discipline into their moral life. As Christian parents, we need to be about the business of training our children with due diligence for we are training them for spiritual warfare; a very real warfare which is already before them.  Much could be said regarding this, but suffice it to say that they need to see first of all true spirituality, true Christianity, in us! We can win the race of life down here but lose the ultimate prize:  eternal life.  But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: [John 1:12] Father, God, help us!!! So much is at stake and so many don’t yet have our heads in the game. =============================================== Your support is important to our ability to make a difference: donate online at: https://americandecency.org/folder.php?f=donate American Decency Association Bill Johnson, President P.O.
