American Dad is back – unfortunately.  This April, FOX started rolling out new episodes of this Sunday night animated program.  By now no one is surprised to hear that this show lives up to its stale reputation of combining so-called adult humor with (historically) children’s television. I have said before that were this show not animated, this content would not air on network television. What program outside of FOX’s Sunday night roster would feature a high school freshman in the back of a car with his feet on the front seats, preparing to masturbate?  Or the same student fantasizing about a classmate, a minor (albeit an animated one), preparing to take off her top?  Or an alien talking with his best friend’s wife about how he (apparently a bi-sexual) knows the best places in town to get raped? Essentially, American Dad is back with more of its blatantly sexual tone and degrading treatment of the human race.  This week’s episode was just another example of that. The storyline was as degrading as the details.  The main character does not want to go wine tasting with his wife, so his best friend, the alien, goes instead.  Predictably, they both get drunk and the alien kisses his friend’s wife.  The rest of the episode consists of the alien trying to convince the wife not to tell her husband about it.  He also tries to justify his actions by making his friend kiss his own girlfriend (who he picks up just for the occasion). In the mean time their high school freshman son has learned how to control his dreams so he spends all his time sleeping and lucid dreaming.  I will give you one guess what it is he is dreaming about. His sister takes advantage of the occasion and tricks him into thinking he’s dreaming.  She then drops him off at school but he leaves his pants in the car.  When he tries to kiss his lab partner, she pushes him off her and they both fall out the window.  The girl gets impaled by a fence post. As you can see, American Dad really appeals to the intellect with their deep, original storylines and carefully crafted jokes.
