Last night I sat down with my two year old and five year old grandchildren along with my wife and daughter and watched a movie we had heard almost nothing about: “The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry.â€Â It’s the extraordinary movie we found that can hold the attention of both people in their sixties and a little two year old boy.  In fact, two year old Danny, asked “Can we watch it again?â€Â As families, we struggle to find movies that are rich with spiritual meaning and relevance and yet are also entertaining and thoroughly clean. I highly recommend this 2009 film for your family viewing! We intend to get a license to show it to our greater community in the weeks ahead! I can hardly wait to watch people enjoy the sweet message of this wonderfully crafted 95 minute movie. The movie is about a 75 year old man Jonathan Sperry who befriends a young 12 year old boy, Dustin. Jonathan Sperry has lost his wife in a tragic car accident four years earlier but his love for Jesus Christ has not been extinguished. His love for the Bible, for the Lord and for life beautifully spills out into Dustin and then to Dustin’s friends and even  to an enemy of Dustin, Nick, the town bully whom Mr. Sperry tenderly confronts with love and grace. Seventy-five year old Jonathan Sperry displays incredible grace, sweetness and old-fashioned creativity as he shares his life and Biblical messages that help young lives see the reality of God in their daily living. All is not sugar and spice as hardship, sin and death are present in this movie. Further surprises and graces unfold as Dustin and the other boys experience further twists and difficult life decisions.
