9/11: We Will Never… Oh, Forget it…

By: American Decency Staff

Submitted by: Chris Johnson One morning, when I was 12, my mom was going through the usual difficult routine of coaxing me into starting my morning math lesson. I was homeschooled and math was my least favorite subject, therefore, in my mother’s wisdom, it was our first class of the day so we could “get it out of the way.â€Â When I was lucky, mom would have unexpected company, or an errand to run, or a phone call from a talkative friend. I would take the opportunity to read whatever Redwall book I was into or go outside and skateboard. The trick was to not attract attention so she wouldn’t remember what it was she was doing before the phone call and get off the phone. Therefore, on this particular morning, that familiar hope began to rise in my chest when the phone rang. Excellent! It’s one of mom’s friends! But that was where the excitement stopped. Because that phone call was the first we heard about the radical Muslim terrorist attack on September 11, 2001.I spent the rest of the morning wrapped in my grandpa’s old green fleece nap blanket watching Peter Jennings and the videos of the planes hitting the towers over and over. 2 days later, Mom and I went to a prayer vigil in a local church. It was on a Thursday at 11:00 and the pews were full. A video came out of Congress on the steps of the capitol singing GOD Bless America. News reports were full of montages and slideshows featuring the motto 9/11: Never Forget. Right. That’s a broken promise. Yesterday, the last chance (bar a miracle) at refusing an Imam the right to build a mosque overlooking Ground Zero was struck down by a unanimous vote at NYC Landmark Commission hearing. The Islamic “Cordoba Houseâ€Â will be built in the place of a 152 year old building that had applied for landmark status and would have destroyed the chance of building the mosque in that sensitive location. The left has put a lot of focus on cloaking the fact that the biggest threat of terrorism to this nation is rooted in the beliefs of Islam. The individuals who strap bombs to themselves or hold box cutters to the throats of airline passengers are not just disgruntled foreigners. They do what they for the glory of Allah. Allahu Akbar – God is greatest.  These attacks do not have a political agenda or a social agenda; they have a radical religious agenda. Unfortunately, that agenda was carried out on September 11, 2001. Allowing a mosque to be put up next to Ground Zero is as insensitive as putting a Libertarian National Socialist Green Party (NAZI) building next to the Holocaust Museum or a Ku Klux Klan building next to the Museum of African American History.
