89 year old Anita and her reminder to America and to the President

By: American Decency Staff

https://secure4.afo.net/ada/petition.php There will always be something very special about having people gather together uniting their hearts in one accord in a common place – a church, in front of the City Hall, around a flag pole at the high school, etc. My dear friend Don Wildmon added impetus to the National Day of Prayer back in the late 80s by coming up with the institution of “Meet at City Hallâ€Â on the National Day of Prayer.   He wanted to keep before Christians the importance of Christian involvement with our government – praying for it and staying involved as salt and light, running for office, voting and PRAYING. We all know that not all men who have served as President of the United States of America have been Christians.  But nearly all have at the very least acknowledged the importance of prayer and honored the National Day of Prayer in some kind of public manner and through presenting a written statement proclaiming the day as “The National Day of Prayer.â€Â Recently, 89 year old Anita came to our office heavily burdened for our nation and for the importance of prayer!  She was burdened that our President be reminded of how important it is to tens of millions of American Christians that our people be a praying people and that we pray to our living God who has blessed us, guided and protected us down through these many years. With a heavy heart she asked if we would please develop and circulate a petition throughout our great country calling upon President Obama to publically observe May 6, 2010 as the National Day of Prayer. In recent days, this petition has been signed by people from nearly every state in the union.  This petition is available both online and in pdf form to enable you to print it out for yourself and take it throughout your community and to your local church. Petitions are to be sent directly to the White House no later than April 15. Please prayerfully take time to read the petition, sign it yourself and pass this important reminder and petition on to as many of your friends as possible. In Christ’s name, Bill Johnson, PresidentAmerican Decency Association The petition is available via pdf at: http://www.americandecency.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/National-Day-of-Prayer-Petition.pdf The online petition can be found at: https://secure4.afo.net/ada/petition.php We will be giving regular reminders encouraging you to stand with us by (1) forwarding this petition on to your mailing list and email lists, (2) taking the petition to your church requesting your pastor to announce and to promote it, (3) make copies and urge friends and family to get signatures. The Petition reads as follows: To: The President of the United States, Barack Obama* We, the undersigned, do encourage, promote, and request the President’s public observance of May 6, 2010 as the National Day of Prayer. Even as we recognize the President’s governance over citizens of every religion and of no religion, we adduce the examples of the First Continental Congress, Abraham Lincoln, and many past administrations in support of the propriety and recognized necessity of a public “day of humiliation, fasting and prayer.â€Â In light of the events of the past year which encompass every area of every life, from national security to the economy, we anticipate that the president will be an example of gratitude for the sustenance of our nation and reliance on God for the continued protection and advancement of our society. As this past year has been of particular political interest to both sides of the aisle, a day of unity in prayer and meditation for the state of this country can provide a welcome harmony and recognition of the need for divine direction.
