US Senate poised to vote on Hate Crimes Bill, please ask your senators to vote NO

By: Steve Huston

Personal note:

The United States Senate is poised to vote Thursday on Senator Ted Kennedy’s infamous Hate Crimes Bill (S. 909).

My note: The legislation is also known as the Matthew Shepherd Hate Crimes bill (S.909).  It is now anticipated that the bill will be introduced as an amendment to the Defense Authorization Bill. If the Senate approves the Hate Crimes amendment, it is clear that President Obama will sign it into law.

This bill is being attached to a Defense Authorization Bill. This is being done because the Democrats recognize they don’t have the votes to pass this legislation on a stand alone bill.

It’s being attached to a Defense Authorization Bill which is about funding our military. If you vote against the bill you’re voting against the funding of the military.

Further –
” … The Hate Crimes legislation would authorize the Department of Justice to investigate and prosecute certain bias-motivated crimes based on the victim’s actual or perceived sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, or disability. Even more troubling is that S.909 could create special protections for pedophiles. Democrats voted down an amendment to the bill that would have excluded pedophilia and other “sexual orientations” from the definition of “sexual orientation.”

… The reality is that the purpose of this bill is to silence those who speak out against homosexuality. If the legislation passes, pastors could be prosecuted under the federal inducement statute for preaching the biblical view of homosexuality. For example, a person could commit an act of violence against a homosexual individual and blame it on the pastor’s sermon. Similar laws have been used to prosecute religious speech in the U.S. at the state level and abroad. …” AFA Action Alert

Do you stand with us and have never given a gift? Right now is the time to give!!!! It will be matched dollar for dollar.
Over $2,000 has been raised. Help us reach our goal today – please!

1.  it must be new money-from someone who hasn’t given in 2008 or 2009.   Or, any amount given in 2009 which was more than what someone gave in 2008.  E.g. donor gives $400 in 2008 but cumulatively gives $1000 in 2009 by the end of the match period, we will match $600
2.  we will match up to $15,000
3.  the funds must be received between June 15 and September 30.

Do you think that Judge Sonia Sotomayor should be named to the U.S. Supreme Court?

0.0%    Yes. I believe she will think and judge outside of the box. We need a progressive.
