The heart and soul of a man

As we gathered this past weekend and heard various presentations, one of the blessings was to spend time with people who love children, their country and their God. We saw this and heard this in our speakers and with those gathered. What an encouragement!

There was a longing for revival – a recognition that without the help of God, we are doomed.

In 1846, when Lincoln was running for Congress from the seventh district of Illinois, a rumor began to spread that he was not a Christian. In response to this, Lincoln made a public statement, published in the Illinois Gazette, August 15, 1846 which read:

“That I am not a member of any Christian Church, is true; but I have never denied the truth of the Scriptures; and I have never spoken with intentional disrespect of religion in general, or of any denomination of Christians in particular. … I do not think I could, myself, be brought to support a man for office whom I knew to be an open enemy of, and scoffer at religion.”

We have lacked discernment in our most recent election cycle. How many have voted to support a man or woman who is an “open enemy of, and scoffer of religion.”

Jeremiah wrote long ago –

“How can I pardon you? Your children have forsaken me and have sworn by those who are no gods. When I fed them to the full, they committed adultery and trooped to the houses of whores. They were well-fed, lusty stallions, each neighing for his neighbor’s wife. Shall I not punish them for these things? declares the Lord; and shall I not avenge myself on a nation such as this?”

Match Grant Challenge —

$6,639.55 have been raised as of yesterday. $8,360.45 yet needed to reach the goal!

Pornographers raise money easily through deception, playing to the weaknesses of vulnerable men, women and even children. They appeal to the flesh. We raise money through sharing our burden, prayer, service in His name, even match challenges. We appeal to our spiritual brothers and sisters.

Here are the details of this important challenge.

1. it must be new money–from someone who hasn’t given in 2008 or 2009. Or, any amount given in 2009 which was more than what someone gave in 2008. E.g. donor gives $400 in 2008 but cumulatively gives $1000 in 2009 by the end of the match period, we will match $600

2. we will match up to $15,000

3. the funds must be received between June 15 and September 30.
