As with Abercrombie & Fitch, we have archives documenting the highly erotic nature of Victoria’s Secret advertising from their in store window and wall displays, to their television advertisements, to their so-called fashion show and including their email alert advertisements. Victoria’s Secret has taken off the hard edge of their wall and window displays though more toning down is needed (including a significant toning down of their annual December Fashion Show.)

It is our view that their toning down has occurred as a result of ongoing financial difficulties in part, too, as a result of the growing negative public perception that increasing numbers have regarding VS’s explicit displays.

I reported the following in regard to VS’s stated change in direction – dated February 28, 2008. [using articles from Wall Street Journal and CNN)

*** “Victoria’s Secret is owned by Limited Brands Inc., which … reported a 12% decline in net income for its fiscal fourth quarter [2007].”
*** “Malls routinely endure protests from parents who are outraged by the stores’ window displays, which often feature suggestively posed mannequins in over-the-top lingerie.”
*** “Standard & Poor’s Ratings warned it may cut the credit rating of Limited Brands to junk status because of growing concern about the company’s debt.”
*** ” ‘We have so much gotten off our heritage,’ said Sharen Turney, chief executive of Victoria’s Secret, during an analyst call with investors.”

Further “We use the word ‘sexy’ a lot and have gotten off ‘ultra-feminine’,” said Ms. Turney, explaining that she wants to bring more-sophisticated, higher-quality products back to Victoria’s Secret stores.

As you know, ADA has been leading the charge against Victoria’s Secret pornographic mall displays and advertisements.  For the last number of years we have been involved in standing against the pornographic assault upon shoppers by VS.

We have urged people to boycott the company and to divest from Victoria’s Secret/Limited Brands, listing the mutual funds that include VS.

We have assisted concerned citizens who have led protests at their local malls and encouraged people to express their displeasure in Victoria’s Secret’s blatant use of eroticism through phone calls, letters, and emails to VS, the local mall, and the mall’s corporate office.
