Detroit Free Press praises Detroit Lions’ new star quarterback’s womanizing ways

I couldn’t let an article in today’s Detroit Free Press go unanswered. 

Here is an article about the top pick in the NFL football draft – Detroit Lion quarterback Matthew Stafford.

In recent weeks, there has been a lot of discussion about whether this young quarterback should start in place of NFL veteran star Daunte Culpepper. 

Many have noted that Stafford has incredible ability and savvy for a rookie though he hasn’t played one down for the hapless Detroit Lions.

So this article was attention getting.

Clicking on the article shows Matthew Stafford with his 6-year contract that could be worth up to $78 million) with scantily clad women in various photos

The article written by Free Press writer begins in the following way:
“I love Matthew Stafford. He is my new favorite Detroit Lion. Even though he has yet to play a game, I’m certain he will be great.
I base this off several photos of Stafford on the Internet. In these photos, Stafford is practicing, uh, different quarterback techniques with several beautiful women, who happen to be wearing bikinis.

Lions coach Jim Schwartz noticed the photos, too. At the first team meeting, according to a report on mlive.com, Schwartz showed the players some of his family vacation photos and said, ‘I thought I had a fun vacation until I saw this.’

Now, some may look at these and see something naughty, but I see only positives. These photos reveal several reasons why he will be a great quarterback.

Always has his game face

First, there is the huddle photo. This might be the most exciting for Lions fans. In this photo, Stafford practices ‘huddling up’ with four women in bikinis. If you look closely, one of his friends is waving a small American flag.

Simply brilliant! Clearly, Stafford is a great American. He’s a true patriot.

And look at that huddle. It’s perfect! Even on vacation, Stafford is thinking about nothing but football. So that’s the first reason I love him. He never stops training. He is focused on only one thing every hour of every day: Bringing us a championship. …”

To Mr. Jeff Seidel and the Detroit Free Press:

Numbers of your readers are impressionable youth.  You aren’t doing them nor us as parents and grandparents any favors by allowing your newspaper to be a tabloid that plays wink-wink with suggestive imagery that fosters women as sex toys.

Your sarcastic, dirty-minded journalism is not appropriate for a family newspaper.  In a day when people are turning away from purchasing a daily newspaper, this kind of writing promotes a distaste for your newspaper. 

This kind of trash may appeal to some who make it a practice to objectify women, but it’s not for those of us who seek articles that report news in a worthy, objective, wholesome manner.

Lastly, I’ll do my best to find a way to contact the Detroit Lions ownership and to Matthew Stafford himself.  Character does matter.  My opinion of Mr. Stafford has been downgraded significantly. Is this the Lions new leader?  What does that say about the Detroit Lions?
