In Wednesday's email we wrote of abstinence speaker Pam Stenzel who spoke in our local area high schools. Her powerful presentation brings home the physical and emotional consequences of sex outside of marriage. We’ve heard many wonderful comments from the youth who attended, as well as from parents, about her message. But sadly, those 70 minutes of hearing the truth from Pam have to stand against the bombardment that our young people receive daily from the entertainment industry. And last night’s “Cougar Townâ€Â on ABC is certainly no exception.  Pam Stenzel lovingly tells the youth she speaks to that sex means something more than two body parts coming together – it involves the heart. You sure wouldn’t know that from watching “Cougar Townâ€Â.   The lead character played by Courtney Cox rejoices that she’s met her new “10 date rule before having sexâ€Â and can now take the young twenty-something guy she’s dating to bed. There is no commitment, no love, no selflessness. Instead there is crude and explicit dialog and scenes involving her preparing for the night with a bikini wax and her choice to blow off her teenage son to do what she wants to do. Pam tells teens that sex is a decision. That even though popular culture portrays teens as out-of-control animals when it comes to sex – they deserve more respect than that. They can choose to wait for sex, there is such a thing as self-control. Not on “Cougar Townâ€Â. Another revolving theme on the show is of the divorced guy next door who beds a different young, blonde every night.  He is shown in bed with his latest conquest asking himself “Why do I keep doing this?â€Â He then lifts the blanket to look at the young woman’s body and, answering his own question, grins and says “oh, yeah!â€Â. Pam tells youth that she “is such a dinosaurâ€Â that she actually believes sex has more meaning than a physical release, that sex within the boundary of marriage is a beautiful expression of love. On “Cougar Townâ€Â sex is defined with vulgarities. It’s not making love with one person in a life-long commitment of marriage; it’s, as one character said on last night’s episode – “getting the most tailâ€Â. ================= Your letters do make a difference: No Sears nor Halls (and their disgusting ad!) on this weeks show after previously advertising on this show. ========== Advertisers for October 7th - ABC's "Cougar Town" include: Sprint, General Motors, Mattel (Fisher Price) Contact: Mattel, Inc. – Fisher Price Robert A. The lead character, played by Courtney Cox, recently divorced and in her forties, is trying to recapture her so-called “lost youthâ€Â by reverting to adolescent and pathetic behavior – partying, binge drinking, sex with young guys. Millions of broken homes and vulnerable children are being exposed to this kind of trash. Please discontinue sponsoring this filth. Discontinue giving vulnerable ones a warped sense of life. Will you do the right thing? How you respond will have a significant impact upon my buying patterns.
