A praise report: SI Swimsuit magazine removed as a father speaks up

With all the discouraging news that we all swim in, this word from a man in South Carolina encourages me and it will no doubt some of you as well.

May we not vacate our responsibilities to speak up for our children in our local corners.

Here’s the email received just a few hours ago:

Bill:

I just wanted to give a praise report. The folks at our local Food Lion are to be commended.

The other morning I was out early and went to our local Food Lion to pick up some breakfast. There at the checkout stand was the newest Sports Illustrated in full view with some young thing ¾ naked on the front cover, pulling down the thigh string of her bikini.

I spoke with the checkout clerk who said that there was nothing they could do about it. “That’s Sports Illustrated!” as if the store had no say about what they could or couldn’t have on their racks. As a business owner, I know they have the ability to make the decision on what they want to sell or not. Just because it’s big-name magazine doesn’t matter.

I asked for the manager on duty and explained that I was a father trying to raise my kids with virtue and that the magazines belonged in a porn shop not a grocery store. She said she’d pull them immediately. It was just that easy.

I don’t think many people look for confrontation. I don’t. I had the same struggle that morning. “I don’t have time.” “I don’t want to confront them.” “They’ll think I’m weird.” I’m weak but God is strong and He wants us to be bold. What is porn doing in our grocery stores? It’s because we’ve allowed it for too long.
