The fight against pornography. What fight?

By: American Decency Staff

"… 'We're losing,' Mueller said bluntly when asked about the issues of computer crime and child pornography on the Web by Rep. Trent Franks, R-Ariz. .." The fight against pornography. What fight? My calling into ministry came through the fight against pornography in 1985. There was a window of opportunity to fight against the purveyors of pornography in the local community, in the state and in the nation. It's a long story but a great story because local warriors like myself were standing up and getting involved empowered by the recommendations that came out of the Attorney General's Commission on Pornography(Ed Meese under the Reagan Administration). The Fed had commitment. They formed a task force to aggressively investigate and enforce the law against illegal pornography. Victories were being won as kingpins of pornography were being successfully convicted and put behind bars. This kind of engagement of the pornography industry was trickling down to the local level. Certain local prosecutors and Federal Attorneys at the state level were doing likewise. How the tide turns and turn it has. Though pro-family groups have tried again and again and again over these years to invite/urge the Clinton Administration, and, more recently, the George W. Bush Administration, pornography has largely been given a free pass. The significance of the Justice Department handling pornography as if it is victimless has been that sex entrepreneurs have great boldness to line their pockets at the cost of all – including children. Yesterday ABC news reported the following: [FBI Director] Mueller: 'We're Losing' the Child Porn War http://abcnews.go.com/TheLaw/FedCrimes/Story?id=4712725&page=1 "… 'We're losing,' Mueller said bluntly when asked about the issues of computer crime and child pornography on the Web by Rep. Trent Franks, R-Ariz. 'It is growing on the Internet, exponentially is probably too strong a term, but just about every crime there is has gravitated to the Internet, and in certain cases, the Internet has provided the vehicle for expansion that otherwise would not be there, and that's certainly true with child pornography," Mueller told Franks and the rest of the committee'. …" So what is a person to do? A sense of hopelessness increasingly has neutralized untold numbers. That is really scary. As we lose heart, we lose our faithfulness and our boldness to influence (to speak up, speak out, lobby, exhort, stand – however you want to say it.) =================================== I intend to say more about this tomorrow. There is a prayer breakfast, conference and demonstration being organized for Washington DC. Stay tuned. Your prayers are coveted. ================================== American Decency Association Bill Johnson, President P.O. Box 202 Fremont, MI 49412 ph: 231-924-4050 www.americandecency.org
