Television is a very personal matter

*** Responses to FCC decisions – ADA email alert from yesterday. [ABC Faces Indecency Fine For 2003 'NYPD Blue' Episode] https://americandecency.org/main.php?f=updates_new/2008/January/01.28.08 *** Personal note – "The demons surrounding TV" ============= *** Responses to FCC decisions The TV in the home must be tightly controlled by the parent or have the TV removed from the home. If a TV is in the home, it should be behind closed doors and only brought out for certain approved programs and then immediately returned to behind closed doors. P.S. ============= I find myself in a difficult position because the programs mentioned have been off my list to watch so unless someone like yourself brings it to my attention it's not in my radar. Lately I find my family watching videos and a very short list of TV programs. I have even had an issue with DORA who had on one of it's video a good witch. As the public the need is to be more selective in what is allowed to appear on our TV. D.S. ================= *** Personal note: There is such an outpouring of filth and trash over the airwaves. With each year it has worsened. I mentioned yesterday that through 1988 I had served as a teacher in the public schools (elementary aged students). One year in early September I wrote a letter to the parents that I was thankful to be their child's teacher for the coming year. I wrote that I wasn't just concerned for their children's brain cells – reading, writing, arithmetic, etc.; I was concerned that they would know the difference between right and wrong, good and evil and that they would know the difference. Expressed concern about Benny Hill or Dallas I wrote that I was aware that some youngsters in past years were watching programs like Dallas and Benny Hill (both certainly controversial). I urged the parents to exercise care and caution for their children as we each are impacted by what we listen to and view. The very next day a parent called in to the school principal asking that their child be removed from my classroom. A week later a parent called my house on a Saturday asking the question "What are you doing, Bill, watching Saturday morning cartoons?" That parent, too, pulled their student from my classroom. I had never before nor ever after had a student pulled from my classrooom. This event occurred after I had taught for eleven years. I wasn't a rookie and was a respected teacher. I was addressing my students therefore as an experienced and regarded teacher (1982). Television is a very personal matter. There are a lot of demons surrounding the choices we make – spiritual warfare is a reality. A lot of years have passed since that date. I see that there will be no victory in regard to cleaning up our airwaves during our lifetime though it would be a very serious mistake to stop standing for what is right and opposing what is destructive. That fight, though, must not just occur through government agencies (like the FCC) but in our homes – in our own lives. The pursuit of holiness is very real and very needed and will never, ever go away until Jesus comes. In Him, is the ultimate victory. If we know Him, He has begun that good work in us and, therefore, we increasingly desire to put off that which is displeasing to Him and put on that which is glorifying and honoring to His name! In fact, it is this very reality, the reality of Him in me that stirs me to fight the fight every day – within and without! I abhor the damage done by so such much filth that is foisted upon us in our day. Fight the fight with me. I appreciate the words of encouragement that I receive. It means a lot. Though it doesn't feel like it much sometimes – we are on the winning team. For our great God and King is on His throne and nothing – not a thing surprises Him. His Truth is marching on! =================== And, yes, we still are making the offer available the book "The Pursuit of Holiness". The author Jerry Bridges states it this way: "The Christian plumber and the Christian banker and the unsung homemaker and the powerful head of state are all alike called to be holy." "… But God has not called us to be like those around us. He has called us to be like Himself. Holiness is nothing less than conformity to the character of God." This book is a tremendous study. The chapters are concise and meaty but readable. The little book has study questions for each chapter. A tremendous way to study over a period of time God's great plan for our lives – I urge the reading and study of this book for yourself. And beyond that, I encourage you to bring together a group of people – young and/or old – and study and strive together to engage in this life long pursuit – "to be holy for He is holy."
