No friend to me or you: this kind of ad

By: Steve Huston

“I will place no wicked thing before my eyes.”
[Psalm 101:3a]

This is difficult in our culture today and it only promises to get worse.

The front cover of the Grand Rapids Press’ TV guide displayed
the following picture promoting the show 90210.

They can do better than this.

This kind of imagery below featured in this weeks Grand Rapids Press TV Guide is just one of the many kinds
of images that are foisted in front of the faces of you and me – day in and day out.

I’m thankful that my wife and I share the same concern regarding television in our household. We simply don’t use one. It has certainly proven one important way of combating illicit sexuality into our hearts,
eyes and souls.

I remember a message given by Lieutenant Colonel David Grossman who stated that he told his children as they had children that he would give them a $1,000 if they chose not to have a television in their households. His ministry gives significant reasoning behind his loving urging to his children.

In many respects, we find ourselves in a situation much like that of the people of Israel in the Old Testament. The Lord, speaking through the prophet Ezekiel said of His chosen people:

“They have made no distinction between the holy and the profane and they have not taught the difference between the unclean and the clean.
[Ezekiel 22:26]
