Narrow, focused activism

By: American Decency Staff

Personal note: Victoria's Secret is renowned for their disingenuous responses to customer complaints regarding their mall window displays and television ads. Here are a couple of cases in point. If you have any you can provide us, please forward them to me. Include your city and state please. =========================== OCTOBER 14, 2004 Dear Bonnie, Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. The commercial time Victoria's Secret purchases, in no way endorses the program in which our commercials are shown. That said, we truly appreciate your comments and will take them seriously. We continually use such valuable feedback to provide direction for us going forward. If you need further assistance, please reply to this e-mail or call anytime. Thank you for contacting Victoria's Secret. Sincerely, Missy E. VictoriasSecret.com Client Services ========================== FEBRUARY 21, 2004 Dear Valued Client, Thank you for your e-mail regarding our advertisements. We appreciate the time you took to inform us of your concerns. Victoria's Secret always has and always will stand for quality, great value and integrity. We consider prime time television advertising to be an essential ingredient in marketing our products to current and potential clients. The commercial time Victoria’s Secret purchases in no way endorses the program in which our commercials are shown. Again, we appreciate your comments and take them seriously. We continually evaluate client feedback to provide direction for our future efforts. If you need further assistance, please reply to this e-mail or call anytime. Thank you for your interest in Victoria’s Secret. Sincerely, Angela, VictoriasSecret.com Client Services Update from yesterday. *** I called Victoria's Secret and actually talked with a young lady who listened very graciously as I expressed concern that VS doesn't take expressions of concern seriously as they say. She said she understood my concern and would pass my concern along and would have someone call me. Guess what? No one has called me. *** I called the General Manager of Lakes Mall, Muskegon, MI and left a voice message. In his email to me he stated that the proper channel was to call Victoria's Secret and that they take expressions of concern seriously. I, of course, communicated to the general manager (Mr. Kenneth Hagen) that Victoria's Secret does not. Therefore, the only way to relay our concern to the mall and to Victoria's Secret was by protest of one kind or another – picket, boycotting, etc.. I await his call but we're not going away. As I stated in our January newsletter, we have successfully completed our building campaign. Now we are returning to a narrow focused activism.
