Modesty and decency – a local parish sets the pace

By: American Decency Staff

The diminishment of our surrounding culture upon living for Christ is overwhelming at times. Though we best get used to it. How precious it is to know Him and the power of His resurrection and to live boldly before Him and a watching world. When we know Him, He places within us a desire to live and to stand for Him. Evidences (below) of a parochial school setting a tone for His righteousness in their school (and of a church). I have the name of the school (and parish) but am keeping it anonymous lest those who desire to attack modesty and decency find a "hook" to pull them downward. First the school provides counsel in regard to dressing for an upcoming graduation ceremony from 8th grade. May 18, 2008 8th Grade Information: I would like to have the 8th grade girls bring in a picture of themselves wearing the dress they will be wearing for graduation. Both Fr. Dennis and I would like a chance to approve it, especially for Mass. The boys need to wear a shirt and tie with dress slacks. If you have any questions, please contact me. The 8th grade students do not need to report to school on Thursday, June 5 or Friday, June 6. However, they do need to come in sometime on Thursday to set up for their graduation party. The students and I will be coordinating a time. God Bless you on this upcoming week! ———– And this statement in regard to modest dress as summer approaches preparing a congregation to remember God's call for modesty. May 18, 2008 MODESTY: Another issue with the warm weather is summer dress. Please remember that …. is a sacred place of worship. Please dress modestly during the warm weather. We have air conditioning and so there is no need for scantily clad parishioners. In the Catechism of the Catholic Church #2522 it states: “Modesty protects the mystery of persons and their love… Modesty is decency. It inspires one’s choice of clothing. It is discreet.â€Â In the Catechism #2523 is also states: “There is a modesty of the feelings as well as of the body. It protects, for example, against the voyeuristic explorations of the human body in certain advertisements, or against the solicitations of certain media that go too far in the exhibition of intimate things. Modesty inspires a way of life which makes it possible to resist the allurements of fashion and the pressures of prevailing ideologies.â€Â How important in our culture where little respect is given to the sacredness and dignity of the human person for us as Christians to guard and protect our young people and encourage all of us to be modest in our speech, clothing and life-style. ================== Thank you for helping us stay in the battle for Truth and decency. https://americandecency.org/folder.php?f=donate Bill Johnson, president ———- American Decency Association Bill Johnson, President P.O.
